A Big hello from Bucks.

Postby Tubthumper on Tue Mar 18, 2014 9:24 pm

Evening all.

Greeting from sunnyish Buckinghamshire :)

I'm currently on the look out for a multi-purpose vehicle that will handle;

1. My 14k a year commute, all A and B roads, some of which are pretty ropey, without bankrupting me.
2. Tow my caravan and van trailer.
3. Be big enough for the wife, two kids and all the stuff that they seem to need to take everywhere
4. Be better than the utterly dreadfull Grand Cherokee I've had the misfortune to own in the past.
5. Not be as ugly as a Ssangyong Musso

And this has brought me to the 2.2 DTI Fronty , so be prepared for loads of daft questions before I take the plunge !

Hi mate and welcome to the forum! Don't worry about askin questions mate we all started somewhere!!!!!!! I would also consider the V6 there very much the same on fuel and you may find a V6 on LPG. My friend who lives over the road from me has got the V6 on LPG and swears by it. He uses it for work and going on holiday with his caravan.

Regards Bobster.

Cheers Bob,

Having read a few threads on here, I am beginning to think twice about the 2.2 DTI , as it does appear to have quite a few short falls in reliability.

Our old Jeep ran lpg , and the tanks were underneath, unlike a couple of Fronty's I've seen for sale that have had their boots compromised with a cylinder taking up space

Certainly food for thought.

Hi,
I would definitely recommend the 3.2 V6 on LPG, Although I mainly have 2.2 petrols ( 1 on LPG ) which are not without their issues but do tow Ok ish, but you will get more MPG out of the 3.2 than the 2.2 so its a no-brainer! Also LPG at 68.9 p / litre is the best part.. everytime I fill up I save £36 over the equivalent petrol quantity and get pretty much the same mpg. :D

Where about's in Bucks are you?

Thanks for the replies chaps, so it looks like I'll hold out for a 3.2 on gas, if it's got inderslung tanks, or a DTI that's already had the fuel pump replaced.

Vauxsqueeks - I'm in Aston Clinton , just outside Aylesbury.

Ah you are close to me and Vauxsqueeks then, I am in MK he is about 10 minutes from you from memory.

Budget can often dictate the engine you end up with. Also dont be fooled by the 3.2 is just as good on fuel as a DTi, from experience, it isn't! Yeah on gas i can see it but my old DTi was far better on fuel that my old V6. That said i am now in a 2.2 Petrol, that is truely pants on fuel compared to the 3.2 and the DTi!

My currently daily hack gets me 50 mpg , and I'm under no illusion that a Fronty in any format will cost me a lot more in fuel. The trade off is an increased towing ability, greater carrying ability and less chance of falling into one of the many potholes i encounter on my commute
