New member from Herts.....

Hello all, I've just joined and thought I'd say hello before going any further.....

I'm originally a northener but emigrated to the south to follow work and now live near Watford. I don't currently own a Frontera but have joined with the intention of finding out what to look out for when buying one and what the best model is to go for..... so any advice will be gratefully received.
I have always owned Vauxhalls and now I want a 4X4...... So of course....... I'm going to keep it Vauxhall.....lol

I have a bit of experience with greenlaning, off road etc because of friends back north but experience of vehicles has been mainly with Land Rover.... So I confess to knowing very little about frontera's

Both my partner and I own Vauxhall Astras at the moment but one of them has to go to make way for something more practical..... it ain't going to be mine.....!

Anyway, I'll be browsing the classifieds for now...

Well I went from an astra diesel estate, to a 2.3 frontera and although it was slower I was very happy with that. They are generally reliable if looked after,(I had my head under the bonnet each week just checking) but a little underpowered,very slow up hills, and a bit smokey. Most of the time I was driving solo and got 35mpg around town but as soon as I had a load or a trailer I noticed the drop in mpg.I also made sure the tyre pressures were right weekly as the alloys are prone to leaking.This made a difference in performance,mpg and felt squishy round corners.They also have a heavy swing arm for the spare which i took off and then put a swing door on.
However I now have a 2.5(only from two days ago) which is definately quicker and reputably has a similar mpg and the heatings much better.
I prefer the dash on my old 2.3.The 2.5's and 2.8s have coil springs not leaf and have swing back doors with the spare on.
I needed a more butch astra estate and thats what I got,I am talking about the long wheel base ones,a sport would be no good for me.
I havent even seen a 2.8 but they seem very well thought of the mpg being 28-30.
I have seen several 2.3s from £200 to £900 on Preloved,Gumtree and adtrader and ebay.The 2.5's and 2.8's seem to come up less often.
I would get one and hopefully it will be a good one I have had good times with mine and love the 4x4 capacity and general feeling of a solid vehicle.
