Hi all, names Kev did a quick search for Frontera owners clubs and hey ho I found yourselves I am trying to buy a swb fronty but there doesnt seem much out and about at the moment, budget of around £700-900. Some very useful info found on here, which is great to help me buy a decent motor and not buy a pig. Currently involved in the MR2 scene, fantastic club and it looks like this club has all the ingredients to be the same if not better. I am located in Wellingborough Northamptonshire so pretty central for some gatherings and fun (when I finally have a fronty) Couple of quick questions are the 2.0i engines cambelt or timing chain? A slight whine from the diff/axle avoid like the plague or could be a easy fix? Here are a couple that I might go and have a look at, opinions very welcome http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... Welcome along Is it definitely only the 2.0i you're wanting or are you open to others?

Those look a bit overpriced to me, especially the autotrader one...
Have you had a look in our for sale section ?

Hiya mate and welcome to Fog...
The links you posted.... The first one in the auction seems a better motor and is coil sprung which gives a nicer ride and a bit more articulation off road..
the second and third links are overpriced leafers from dealers...nothing wrong with leafers mind, but they are too dear...stick to private ads or listings for the best deals...
Swb fronties are also available in 2.5tds and 2.8tdi..which in honesty are a much better bet...more difficult to find granted, but better off road and loads cheaper to run...
Hope this helps...will keep an eye on the ebay and post up any links I see that look better for you...

They did the V6 in a sport too, didn't they?
Rare as rocking horse droplets, granted.

Hi bud and welcome to FOG.
I've got a 2ltr but to be perfectly honest with you I wish that i'd gone for a 2.5. nothing really wrong with the 2 but it does lack power on the road, but will hold it's own off-road even though it can get a little hot. also it really could do with the extra umph of an extra 1/2 litre..or another gear for the motorway
belt driven and it's a fairly easy job to replace, bit like most of the other mechanical fixes that you'll encounter.
good luck with your search, don't forget the "for sale" section here.

Thats a nice one, good AT tyres, has the older dash,Ive had both prefer the older shape more place to stick gadgets to, its actually quite rare to see that dash on a P reg. Looks a tidy car with three owners, offer £100 less see what happens, check rear diff plate for leaks and rear of engine near the gear box for rear crank seal leaks, also the top of the rear of the rocker will have a small leak they all do, use it to bargain with Check 4wd system on loose ground if possible. Look under top of rear wheel arch where roll bar bolts in for corrosion, other than that normal car rules apply.

Personally for the age/mileage you're looking at I would be looking to pay no more than about £500, maybe £550 for a nice one, but maybe that's just me
