Hello from BillericayFrontera Sport 2.0 1991 on a "J". I've taken on this car now as my mum has decided not to drive anymore. It's been unused for a year and now needs to be used again. It's too good to let go and has incredibly low mileage with some years less than 200 miles between MOT's. Looking forward to using it as an occasional driver, keeping mileage low and maintaining its excellent condition. Hope to meet other enthusiasts and owners along the way

Re: Hello from BillericayThanks andytats. Seen quite a few Fronteras as late and they still look good, purposeful and stylish. I have to cover many miles for work and use my daily drive ZT for that but, will include some regular use in the Frontera as this will keep it in good order.
Re: Hello from BillericayHello and welcome to fog.
Re: Hello from BillericayThanks Stretch. Much useful information here which is going to make my work easier to maintan the Sport in good order.
Re: Hello from BillericayWotcha buddy. The old 2.0 Sports are cracking. Old school making them tough little things.

Re: Hello from BillericayHi and welcome aboard and nice to read that one of the original Fronteras is going to be kept alive.
A real bonus that you know the history of your motor. The 2 litre engine, which is the C20NE was basically the same lump used in the Carltons and Cavaliers from that era with a different sump and oil pick up to get around the front axle found on the Fronty. I know that when I used to run an 89 Cavalier one of the things I used to have to keep an eye on was the basic recycling system getting blocked up with gunk. This is the gauze square filter that fits in the top of the rocker cover and the rubber hose that fitted onto a metal pipe that went back down to the sump. IIRC this was the basic system that would have been employed for burning of excess gases before the invention of the EGR valve. I found keeping the filter and pipe work clean used to help the engine run smoother. The other thing is the timing belt. I'd put money on it your original Fronty will have the shorter timing belt that was tensioned on the waterpump. Vauxhall did change that configuration when they introduced a timing belt tensioner relatively soon after the Fronty was launched. The easy way to tell is if the top timing belt plastic cover is round or flat. The round version is the original waterpump tensioned. Not a problem but just a heads up if you do the belt change to look out for getting the correct kit from the outset. Anyhow, good on you for keeping one of the original Frontys on the road. Even the newer ones have to fight the baked bean tin convention so good to see what must be quite a rare Fronty alive.
Re: Hello from BillericayThanks Retro Pedro for very useful advice. Yes, it is the rounded top timing belt cover. Already joining forum has proved invaluable as did not know of alternative. I'll check the pipes too. Have to carry out a service anyhow as has stood for quite a while with just an odd up and down the drive. It is certainly one of the first and my mum had it on order for seven months waiting for delivery. Remember collecting it from Magnus in Brentwood and looked stunning in silk Violet. Thanks again.

Re: Hello from BillericayBillericay - where's that
![]() Got some old bits and pieces here that you may or may not want if you want to collect from the town area. Having a clear out of the shed half term week so will know exactly what's left. Mostly bodywork bits as I had a 2.8, Haynes manual etc. Traffic lights in London are just rough guidelines
Re: Hello from BillericayHi Bad Boy. Sorry not replied earlier as some family illness and bereavement took over normality. Kind offer thanks. Bodywork all good on the Sport and looks terrific when freshly waxed. I'm going to have to replace the fuel tank carrier as this has some rot but is a weak spot I understand. Need to recover roof lining and then it'll be more or less ready for the road. I'm sure you'll move the parts if you haven't already done so but thanks again for offer. The 2.8 a good engine I'd think as the 2.0 8 valve works hard but has a nice sound on idle.
Re: Hello from BillericayMeant to add Bad Boy, is yours a red metallic sport a often see this driving around Billericay?
