I haven't actually got a Frontera
In my defense though I do have part of a Frontera Sport. Let me explain, I currently own a '93 Vitara SWB. It was very cheap and is great fun off road but is woefully slow, so when a Vauxhall C20XE engine came up for grabs in exchange for doing an engine swap I jumped at the chance, thinking I'd just make a conversion plate and drop it in. Once I'd done the swap and got the engine I measured up the bellhousing on the spare Vitara gearbox and discovered that the XE flywheel was bigger than the hole. After some thinking I decided to take the Omega gearbox and SJ410 transfer box route and was alarmed at how much it'd cost when I started to price it up. When a mate asked if I was going to use a Frontera gearbox it suddenly dawned on me that the Frontera Sports had a C20NE in them, having previously helped a mate swap a FWD 20SEH into his about 7 years ago I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it sooner!
So last Friday I had the afternoon off work and, on a tip off from a guy at work, went to a small breakers and relieved a very rusty 'K' plate Frontera Sport of it's gearbox, props, clutch slave cylinder, speedo cable and clocks. I was planning to use the clutch and flywheel off that one but the material had separated from the clutch plate and the rivets had scored the flywheel. Found a complete clutch and flywheel on ebay but when it turned up today the pressure plate looked like it had been stored underwater and the clutch plate was down to the rivets.

As the MOT runs out next month, I figure that then would be the ideal opportunity to do the engine swap as I had already planned to do a body swap. Trials haven't been kind to the body that's on mine. It's getting a Mk1 Civic shell (same wheelbase
) so the body can be cut around to fit the engine and 'box after I've got the running gear sorted on a bare chassis.Here's how the Civic shell looks at the moment stored on my spare Vitara chassis, it's only plonked on there and will sit lower (and level) on the finished article
