Time; 14:30 How Many Runs; 2 in Same Direction Upstream Vehicle; Mine How Many Vehicles; 1 How Many People in Vehicle; 4 Green Lane / Ford Name; Great Alne Location; WARWICKSHIRE Average Speed; 8 MPH General Condition; Steady Flow, Good Base & Clear from Trees Weather Condition; Hot & Dry Pictures/Video; N/A (Next Time) Comments; This ford is a little hidden away on a road which is fast turning into dirt track. Despite resembling a track, the road has proper signs warning of the ford and of a weak bridge just before/after it.(Depending on which way you come through) The bridge can only take seven tonnes! Viewed from the Great Alne side, the ford looks quite shallow with a gravelly bottom as it disappears into the distance. However, when viewed from the other side, things look a bit more deep and menacing! Unfortunately, there is no footbridge for a full evaluation and I forgot my boots so I didn't wade in. When I got down into the Ford (Coming from the B4089 end) There's quite a drop down into the water but then smooth gravel base for about 5 meters then it has a smooth drop under the surface taking it down from about a Foot to nearly Two Feet deep then it slopes back up to about half a foot to a foot deep! This Ford is not recommended for standard road tyres but mine had no problem with it! As you follow the Ford round there's a section where the River Crosses the Route and it appears like a Crossroads!! (Just stay going straight please!) then you climb up a gentle slope out of the water! There was a Man waiting at the other side of the Ford in a Snorkel Equipped Landy but I think he lost interest after he'd noticed the water had only come up to the Trim across my Doors. http://vamp.idlers.org/~jaffa/warwickshire.htm http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi? ... oordsys=gb

That is one heck of a ford.
I noticed at the end you positioned your car so as to turn round and go again Oh, and you seem to have sorted a camera mount out ok. Lawrence
it's a good one alright! and on the route for tomorrow!!
I pulled up there, switched back from 4wd to 2wd and waited as a Range Rover had pulled up behind me on the 2nd stop when I checked the Depth at the Ford Entrance. I thought he was coming through so I'd grabbed the Cam to get him on the Ford Exit! But he had parked up and the Driver and his Kids were on the Island in the middle! I've stuck some Velcro above the Radio and thankfully it holds in most situations! Steve
Hi Steve

3 Fronteras and a HiLux Exiting the Ford!
Ok, 2 Fronteras! I'd already come through!! http://media.putfile.com/Great-Alne-For ... ra-1xHiLux
Oh hell, I made a Boo-Boo!!
On the Fording Run I took Trugga, Apache-Andy and HL3 on I stated that the Depth Marker at the Start of The Ford was 1Foot Deep at the Floor.. I do apologise but I was incorrect on this....Have a Close Look!!!!!! ![]()
You will Daz and Myself and Apache_Andy will happily hold your Hand through Great Alne!
Trugga even said Himself that he Hadn't done Deep Water and as you can see from the Exit Video it was running at 2.5ft deep and I think He Enjoyed it! lol
Cheers Steve - actually I did enjoy it.
To complete the videos of this particular ford, here's the video I hashed together shortly after the event: Click for video Lawrence
Yep another excellent video, I could watch this stuff for hours keep it up. Hope to add my own soon!!!
One question who was stood in the river filming the exterior shots...cant see pursuading the missus to do it ...
There's only a couple of Fords where you need to stand in the River itself to get some footage and Great Alne's one of them!
Regretfully I couldn't persuade the Mrs to stand in the River as She'd just had her Eyes operated on! lol
There's such an easy response there about needing her eyes to be operated on after landing such an ugly mutt like you, but I won't!
ooh crickey that means it was about 2 foot 8 when I looked on monday ![]()
Well, I went for a little drive last night and had a look at great alne ....
It was touching the Depth Marker at the Entrance (About 3" above the base to be honest) ... Regretfully I was A; Alone and B; Haven't sorted a Camera Mount out yet ... But I did it!! Thankfully with the High Ground on the Right as you go through the Dip it was only just at the top of the Headlight Lens and the Bow-Wave was about an Inch off the top off the Bonnet...sweeping to about 8" from the top of the Wheel Arch so the Intake was clear .... No leaks inside and She seemed to enjoy it .. I think if anyone else had been there I would've blown it out for H&S reasons but Since I was on my own and not in a particularly good mood I went for it and did it ......
You know the snorkle is tempting

To Be Honest Ste .... Lastnight I didn't care if I killed Her!!
I've pushed my Luck in Non-Snorkelled Petrol Fronties!! And gotten away with a lot more than I should've ... might be time to think about a Career Change!! lol Last edited by sollihull on Wed Nov 29, 2006 12:32 am, edited 1 time in total.
You brave boy steve. You must of kept well right to avoid the dip then. Did you go on the island, wonder if the stash of porno mags is still there. Got a pic of my dodgey mates on the island at night messing around with a £600 night vision scope.

Had my Hands full keeping Her on the Slope and the Intake area relatively clear from the water.... She did go light at the Bottom of the dip but there's enough momentum to carry you over the worst the you're ok as the bad rises nicely the banks on the right as you do "The Crossroads" part of the Ford
