Detailed (paper) Maps
Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 "Landranger" maps will suit most of our needs.
Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 "Explorer" maps offer a little more detail.

PC Programs (electronic maps)
Memory Map provides a free viewer (with sample maps) and sells both Ordnance Survey Landranger and Explorer maps in electronic form.
Google Earth

TomTom is a Navigation Tool
Memory Map Full or part maps uploaded from a PC

PC mapping tools/utilities
POIEdit is a tool for managing and editing TomTom POI's (Points Of Interest) [Tip: install Google Earth for added funtionality]

Er, yes, I know, but forgot to mention it, although you need to install it onto a PC before uploading to a PDA.

I'll amend the first post.

Anyone have POI for tom-tom with the start of some lanes, I have the one with fords.
I suspect that each lane from POI would have to me individually evaluated and checked that it’s still legal; however the POI would come in useful for some further research.

sorry if this is a little of the subject but i have recently brought an OS map and i was just wondering how to use the the key (which am i allowed to drive down) silly i know but rather look silly now instead of when im getting told off or shot lol.

On the Landranger or Explorer OS maps BOATS (Byways Open to All Traffic) are shown as "++++++++" on Landranger and "+++++++++" on Explorer. However, it is very advisable to check with you local Rights of Way officer to check that the lanes are still legal to drive and that there are no TRO's in force (Temporary Restriction Order) in place. Get caught driving a lane that has been downgraded or has a TRO and you will get a section 59, 2 of them in a year and your lovely fronty will be reduced to a small cube Thanks for the heads up on that last lane in Wales Drift

Yeah, couldnt agree more. However, have been trying to join GLASS for the last week, done the login bit, done the pay up bit, get emails back saying thanks for the cash and .....


..... Still trying to get on the main site (need a mod to 'authorise' the account it seems) and then it'll be off to the Wayfinder site to repeat the process...

Good job I wasent needing the info for the weekend!
