Lost lake - Pentrefoelas

Ello,
Planning on a camping expedition to the Lost Lake, does anyone know who owns the land around the lake and has anyone seen any campers up there before ?

Managed to find a green oval site where they camped over night , they just said that the only thing you need to be wary of is the 'water bailiff' who may come checking that you aren't fishing.

You see , you shouldn't have gone all southern softie on us should you Kylie A couple of blokes from work wanted to go on a camping p1ss up and thought I could show them a few lanes while we were at it, Lost Lake seemed like a good spot. Not likely to upset anyone there. I think the farm is just about far enough away not to hear our drunken singing etc.

Hmmm, just got back from a weekends 'camping' Oh my God ,what a nightmare.

We decided to chance it as there were two conflicting weather reports for the area, one said 35-45 wind and rain , one said sun and cloud. Which one do you think turned out to be correct ?

Got to the lane leading to the lake at about 2.15PM and very quickly caught up with a Defender in front of us. The rain was now horizontal and the wind was almost what felt like hurricane level Was a more than a little surprised to see the passenger of the Defender, a young lady, (who was on gate opening duty) jump out of the landy wearing a pair of black cut off shorts, dolly shoes and low cut short sleeved top Not typical laning gear, but we enjoyed watching her skipping over the muddy cow cr4p filled puddles
We eventually got down to the lake with the Defender still in front of us. Now for those of you that know this lane, as you get to the to the lake side the lane pretty much disintegrates into a very deep quagmire and is impassable. As we watch him we are assuming that he's going to stop just before the dodgy bit, but carries on head first (and at a major angle) down into a muddy hollow. All we see from behind is the dog they had with them fly from the back of the Defender over the front seats and onto the very well dressed young lady in the front seat. Thankfully no one was hurt, although I don't know how.

The driver dives out of the cab and runs over to us as we are still staring with our mouths open in stunned shock As it transpires he has no tow rope, no shovel, no towbar and no recovery points N00b! We lend him our shovel and watch him digging in vain for 45 mins in torrential rain while we sit in the Fronty smirking. I would have helped him sooner, but I was annoyed at his stupidity and he was delaying the start to our camping trip . After digging out his front and rear diffs he had a go at moving it. Nada, zero, zilch. Still well and truly wedged. Only one alternative, we had to tow it out Because of the severe angle and because I couldn't get much closer without getting stuck myself we just managed to drag his back wheels out, so he had to try and drive through it. Cut a long story short 3.5 hours later with us still being able to even start to get the camping gear out he eventually got through and sodded off.
Rain still coming down and wind still blowing a hurricane and now pitch black dark we decided that by the morning the Fronty may well be in trouble in the morning so we decided to reverse it up the lane until it turned back into solid gravel and we'd kip in the car. Unfortunately as it was pitch black and because the reverse lights are almost useless I somehow managed to drive it into a 3ft deep water gulley on the passenger side Fronty is now well and truly stuck and more worryingly 3 inches from sliding fully into the gulley which would almost definitely resulted in it rolling over. We were 3 miles from the nearest farm and it's now 9pm and the wind / rain is still blowing horizontal so we decide to sleep in the car and pray that the wind didn't blow the car into the gulley while we were asleep, as the car was rocking violently in the wind.I managed to get asleep at about 2am and woke at 4.30am. Wind still blowing rain still chucking it down freezing and starving (we'd not eaten since dinnertime the previous day). At 7.00am we decided to trudge to the nearest farm approx three miles away across swampland in rain that stings the hell out of your face. Got to the farm and managed to convince a reluctant farmer to take two drowned freezing blokes back up and tow us out. After a simple extraction and us thanking him a thousand times we make him an offer of £20 for his time/fuel , at which point he demands £50 After much haggling we settle on £25 notes and drive our sorry asses the hour home .

Conclusion.
I now have a real dislike of Landy drivers (their passengers are nice though ) and that the Lost Lake is a strictly high summer camping venue.

As it was pishing down I didn't get the camera out much but will add what few pics I have tomorrow.

always assume rain up there Si, if in doubt, ask me, and i'll phone a neighbour to find out how the weather is

golden rule take two trucks laning, you always have a back up,

lol that sounds like when I went out laning around here with a mate and parked it on a hill and left it idling, facing down and effectivly ran it out of diesel! (it had all run to the front of the tank, and as we found out, the pick up is at the back lol) had to kip in the truck because it was too dark by then to bleed the system, but got it going again in the morning! - just in time because about 5mins after it spluttered back to life 3 HUGE tractors came by wanting to....well, do some farming I guess?

Andy the lane we were on is no worse than two I use to go to work every day. If I never went on a lane without an escort I'd hardly ever be able to leave the house

Oh man what a nightmare. Only just seen this. I don't feel so bad about poising my shoe up there now.


Oh and you should have given me a shout, I would have happily come and towed you out....for some good pics doing it of course
