Green Laning in Derbyshire

You know what it's like, got a new toy, mad keen to try it out but you just don't get the opportunity!!

Well I've been a bit like that since I got the Frontera a few months back. It's not just that I haven't had the time to get out laning much (although I haven't) but it's the bloomin weather. It just keeps raining.

The lanes round my way are usually rock hard at this time of year, perfect for a spot of solo driving in the evening or for a few hours at the weekend. At the moment though there either under water or have the consistancy of chocolate mouse. Not good.

I finally decided that if I was going to get any serious green lane driving in this summer I was going to have to head of somewhere rocky. As Wales is a bit far from Cambridgeshire for a day trip I headed to Derbyshire instead. What can I say, fantastic!!

I met up with three other GLASS members at Matlock and following a route I've done before on a trail bike we set of into the countryside to take in some of the counties finest lanes.

Following behind me was a Mitsubishi L200, a Toyota Surf and a lifted LR 90.

So how did my humble Frontera 2.2 LWB do in that company?

Fantastic of course (what was I worrying about). We did steep climbs, even steeper descents, rocks, roots, washed out gullys and even some surprisingly deep puddles but my only mishap was to clout the tow bar on a particularly tall rock step. To say the Frontera impressed would be an understatement (and it's bog standard).

On the down side it poured with rain all day which somewhat spoiled the views but it couldn't dampen the spirits.

If you've never been laning in Derbyshire before then give it a go. It wont disapoint.

Here's a few photos taken by Paul (Land Rover 90). There not very arty (the weather was just too bad to stop for a serious photo session) and they're not of Fronteras (I was at the front of course, where else would the Frontera be) but I thought those of you who don't know the area might like to see what your missing anyway.

There is a Frontera in this picture, you just have to look carefully.

It's not all misty moorland in Derbyshire.

Image
There's a great view from the top of this hill on a clear day (honest).

Image
Petes Smurf going over the edge at Bamford (this lane is a lot, lot steeper than it looks).

So there you have it, proof once a gain that a standard Fronteras more than capable of taking on some serious green lanes (but you knew that anyway).

Now all I need is a suspension lift, big tyres, a winch etc, etc (dreaming again).

Thanks again to Paul for the photos (although as a Land Rover driver I doubt he's reading this).

Cheers

Yep, same lane, very nearly same position as well.

That other lane in your photos is a cracker too isn't it (Bull Tor Lane down into Monsal Dale). I saved that one for last. The views are great.

Cheers
