Offroad!

Postby Garracc on Thu Jan 17, 2008 12:19 am

Hi all, thought I would share my embarrasing day with you all and see if you could shed some light :(
Ok, took swb fronty off road for first time today as the mrs is ill so she wasn't using it :P Only went off one of our farm tracks and onto some rather soggy grass and down a hill to do some work, couldn't believe it when i couldn't get back up said hill  4x4 was working but as soon as one wheel started spinning that seemed to be it and it seemed like the other 3 weren't turning  I am correct in assuming the fronty has a lsd aren't I. I have put this naff experience down to having road tyres fitted but i never had this prob with my previous shogie. Has anyone had a similar experience :?

not had that prob as yet however i about F..... mine tonight going through a flood in Leicester. (got some water vapour in the air intake from spray)

I have Grabber AT2s and they have enough to get me up some lets say muddy/gravely lanes

think it could be down to your tyres but i am probs wrong as im sure someone will point out.

Did you try getting a run up in 4x4 low??

Not many have LSD very likely the tyres you have.

Jack up the rear wheels, turn one wheel, if the other wheel turns the same way, you have LSD, if it goes the opposite you have a standard axle

I did, but it was even worse in low :!: Would like to point out i did get out a different way but it was nervewracking and in the end i had to adopt the Jeremy Clarkson approach to offroading........foot to the floor and hope you dont die

Thanks Drift, will check that out but i didn't know lsd weren't the norm  Guess lsd are a more recent fronty addition so having an N reg "A" its bound to be a standard axle isn't it :?:

Yerrr, me too... Unlikely, but seeing as I've got a back axle on from another car, there's a chance, hehe...

When I got my first fronty 2.3D lwb I also got it stuck in some wet grass. I was horrified and very imbaresd, then I got some mud terrain tyres instead of the almost bald road tyres it had and it was unstoppable :D
