to follow this,
i had a problem in fitting the electric fan, the water pump pulley sticks out to far, bu on closer inspection, there is a lot of play in the water pump, so i might as well whip it of and inspect it more, yes the bearing has gone and the pump is knacked, but the new pump will have the same problem of the pulley sticking out to far,
question, has is the pulley kept on the pump, :?:

few pictures of the viscus clutch and how it fell apart in my hands, and some with the water pump removed,

Well I set to work on the Rover today.

Recently acquired a 420 GSi (Bubble Saloon) for a price that was far too good to turn down. It's a bit of a "do-er up-er" but seems pretty sound.
Today was more of a diagnosis day and resulted in the following list;

N/S/F fog light
Temp sensor
Speedo transducer
Aux drive belt

It could probably do with a new set of boots as well but may just get a new set of alloys for the money.

Having bought a "sensible" car does have it's upside. It has meant that SWMBO is coming round to the idea of having a Sport as a "plaything" :D
If you're sat there thinking things just can't get any worse, just wait......

Andy has that fan been attacked with a grinder :shock:

Seems some corrosion in the water pump, worth getting an anti freeze with a corrosive inhibitor.

Bottom ball joint arrived about 12pm. Got that fitted and the old one came out relatively easily. I still managed to break my new ball joint splitter on it though.

I bought a ball joint splitter kit from machine mart for about £20, 3 different prongs and an attachment for an air chisel (could be handy) and the bugger broke on its first outing. Most unimpressed.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!
