Ummmm, dunno, don't have those at the moment to look
Will have to try it out in the morning, was kinda hoping someone would know for sure.. heheh
Just been looking at the old thread and found this:
WHITE (Solid) goes to battery for regulating the voltage.
WHITE (Red) goes in to the loom from the 2.0i
BLACK (Yellow) goes to the stop solenoid
and this:
ALTERNATOR SIDE (in caps)
WHITE WITH RED TRACE goes to the battery light on the dash it's a white with red trace wire as well.
WHITE (no trace) is voltage regulator direct to POSITIVE on battery.. (THIS one receives voltage FROM the battery and regulates how much charge to put back in to the battery)..
BLACK WITH YELLOW TRACE is to the Stop Solenoid.. (THIS one turns on the CHARGE SYSTEM, otherwise without power to this one the charger doesn't kick in from the alternator)
Both were posted by me..
Ummm, anyone able to clarify any of this for me??
I don't wanna break it

i was unsure of your origional wiring , it differs to mine but then again you're wiring to a sport and me to a 2.3 ! i dissagreed with the thinner white being the voltage reg , but having put my mulltimeter on the alty i now am unsure ! when i wired it , i thought i got 12v between the wire and earth but i dont now !! best way i think is for one of the lads with a proper 2.8 to photo the connector ! i'd the charge wire etc then adapt to fit your wiring ! good luck ....

The Haynes manual (Page 13.22) indicates the following.
A. A big red wire connecting to the starter motor
B. A black earth wire to chassis
C. A white (that subsequently splits to two green) wire that goes to the tacho
D. A black/white wire going to the ignition lamp/heater relay
That is my interpretation of the Haynes diagram.
As to where each wire physically connects, I don't know - but I will have a look within the hour.

Oh bloody hell, it's sounding even worse than what I had worked out last time..
Perhaps I should admit defeat and just go to someone who actually knows what they are doing?

Right, inside of the connector, that corresponds with the alternator connector above:
and two of the back where the wires go in:
The actual wire colours (well, on mine anyway) are:
....| green/black
_ _
Black/white... red/white
Does that help ?

trugga , on the 2.8 trooper the tacho feed comes from the injector pump !but then again its not in a trooper is it ? ranga ,look on the bright side theres one wire less to connect ! you know one wire goes to the alty/battery circuit , one wire will be for the ign/no charge warning light and then isn't one going to be the exiter wire ? the one that tells the alternator to charge ?? looking at the haynes book i have to admit that i havn't a clue how to use the wiring diagrams for the later model !
edit - why not fabricate brackets to fit the 2.0 alternator ? then you can use the origional connector ? and the stop solonoid just wire to the on side of the ign switch ? messing on i know but you'd know the wiring was right

Ok, after much shouting, cursing, swearing, many millimetres of missing skin and a few bent bits of metal and piping...
The alternator is IN..
And apparently working.
BUT for future reference for anyone considering swapping bits between Isuzu engines and Frontera 2.8 engines things are NOT the same.. The block, the head, and a few other little ancillaries are the same but things like the the alternators are different.
I will explain later.

Yeah, decided to start hitting things inside the engine bay and managed to bend a few things... and I've only JUST managed to fit it in there with about 3mm of space... it's really tight.
And I had a hell of a time trying to get the oil pipe on the back of the alternator because it stuck out soooo far, in fact it'll probably wear thru really quick cos it's bent at a horrible angle, I'll have to replace it with a slightly longer one as soon as possible.
Anyway, loads of swearing, cursing and losing of skin was involved by myself and Jim.

This is the engine dressed allready to go in
I don't think I have another picture side on, but you can sort of see the clearance you should have.
