The usual, took the gearbox off.

No Bobby it wasnt having any of it. All things considered though following the 'orrible' crunchy / rattly noises that came from it removing the gearbox for a decent looksee was the right choice. It was a right pig to get off too. Very nearly took the disk grinder to it!

Phil (hound dog) came up to lend a hand (thanks Phil ), and we ended up having to use some lengths of threaded bar with a nut and washer to push the gearbox away from the engine, the gearbox input shaft did not want to part company with it's new bezzer mate the shaft support bearing and actually pulled the bearing out of it's seating in the end of the crankshaft and they finally parted company because the bearing, no matter hard it tried just would not fit through the splined hole in the clutch disk! Went with quite a bang too.

New clutch on order, local factor get it Monday and will drop it off (well trained ). We will then be putting it back together.

Well today I drove down to Greg's to get my front diff welded. But after he cut a hole in the casing ( I'll let him explain about the eyebrows ) Greg noticed that there wasn't anything to weld

Fitted 2 new Sony speakers in the rear of the truck to get rid of the Isuzu cardboard ones.

Not today but yesterday, did some work on Andytats shorty...which went a bit Petetong....

Has been a while since I rednecked a front diff, so did the first cut with the plasma and then paused to check some pics of the internals to refresh my memory of where the rest of the cut should be...

Hindsight is a great thing...

The heat from the first cut, combined with the oil residue in the diff, meant that when I returned to it with the plasma to complete the cutting the pilot arc ignited and axle full of flammable oil vapour, which then exploded like a fireball from the diff and out from under the car, straight in my direction...

My face is a quite burnt, I needed a shave that morning, but dont anymore, the eye brows are mostly gone as is some of my hair. It is pigging sore as well.
Following a "cooling face down with water and a coffee" break, I cut the rest of the casing out, to find the diff is beyond welding up anyway, having lost completely two of its four spider gears...

Lesson learnt though, was bloomin scary how that went up...

I guess a combination of the pause in cutting which let the vapour from the hot oil build up, sooner than just burning away as I cut like normal, and maybe the pressence of fresher oil which might be more volatile than the old stuff normally found in front diffs was all that it took.

Was a scary moment though, although spectacular, and it still feckin hurts...

today i did some work and then looked at it...

I drove it for the 1st time since it passed it's mot. So I started to make my winch bumper out of cardboard so I can check all my measurements and get a idea of what it'll look like. Got half way through and the girlfriend told me to pack up because we're going out for dinner :/ so I'll finish that off later. On the way back home I went down a little lane to check that the 4wd was still working. All I found out is that I welded up the transfer box lever wrong and not very well either and swinging on it to get back into 2wd resulted in my breaking the lever off and being stuck in 4hi. Lucky I have manual hubs lol

Well today when i finished work I took apart the 2.8 front diff.
So I can use the Differential gears & carrier on the 2.0 diff. But only if I can't get the one from Stoke-on-Trent




once I have taken the 2.0 diff apart I'm going to check all the part numbers between the 2.0 & 2.8 just to answer the age old question. "I want to upgrade to a stronger diff "

well managed to fit new leafs bushes and shocks and it looks a lot higher up and its not sagging back when setting off whoop whoop i did have a cutting disk explode and hit me across my face tho like owch ... but whoop whoop

Watched the rear pipe fall off.... Sadly that bit's okay, the middle section however is fubarbed. Guess one will be coming home via the exhaust shop tommorrow
