Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Well today i started preparing for the lakes trip, so a service kicked things off, then i reaplaced the upper and lower ball joints both sides and flipped the top ones, nipped up the front bearings and stripped, cleaned and re-built the front brakes
Also while i was doin this i swopped back to my 265s as i prefer them off road. Washed it and had a nice tight drivehome IF ITS NOT BROKE, YOUR NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH!!

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Over the last month, in between artic chills, shopping trips and (shhhh) work... I've ripped off both propshafts, front exhaust pipe, trim, gear levers and the gearbox bash plate. Today I've removed all(?) the bolts holding the gearbox bell housing to the engine, attached a rope to the end of the gearbox and pulled....

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Been there mate...that bolt had me before too...
Tis a proper strong bugger...I had pretty much a whole fronty hanging by its 2.8 engine on the forklift as I tryed to shake it free...then found I had missed that one! Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!
click here for the SE Events Index/links Thread...see all the reviews and whats coming up soon! Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again... She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body... Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer! MAKE IT or BREAK IT! TEAMXTREME4X4 ![]()
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!It's off... The ratchet winch and frame idea worked a treat, gearbox came off and was perectly balanced
The problem? Rather than being the DMF (although it has'nt been fully discounted yet) the splines on the fibre disk where the gearbox input shaft goes in have been completly stripped! I've seen the centre come away on a plate with the springs, but have never seen the spline strip before. Now, why did it go? Is the DMF failing, if it is and the springs that take up the 'shock' are now weak could it have put additional forces on the spline? or could it have something to do with 210k miles on the clock and me dragging a fully loaded Scottish & Southern Electric Jointers lwb transit out that had dug it self in up to the axles at work the day before. Would it be in order to put a trooper fibre plate in with the springs just in case the DMF is past it's sell by date? And no, I'm not in the mood for having the DMF out too. The crank seal is okay (no oil in the bell housing) so the flywheel stays. Pics, proper thread etc later. Last edited by snapper on Sun Mar 31, 2013 5:43 pm, edited 1 time in total.
