Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Friday: After getting the old bus through its MOT I was planning on changing the driveshafts as it had the a pair off a Frontera fitted just to get through MOT. Had a good look at the driveshafts that were delivered on Wed and one was mullered where the circlip is 'supposed' to sit and the other was the small CV joint version as fitted to Fronteras not Troopers
Frantic phone calls and no one in the area can get me a pair of CV joints till Monday Milners to the rescue, 2x new outer CV joints ordered with next day delivery Saturday: New joints turn up and off we go, passengers side was an easy job but the drivers side was a PITA. The groove in the driveshaft for the C Clip was damaged, had to slim down a parting tool for the lathe, mount the driveshaft and cleanup the slot using the parting tool. After being parked up in Nov due to a combination of mechanical damage and no MOT it is now taxed, MOT'd and in full working order ready for a punch hunt today, same site that broke the steering back in Nov. Managed to complete the day without breaking anything, adding to the dents or getting stuck (had a few close ones tho) BUT The steering idler (brand new) is now bent, again Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Cleaned out the MAP sensor
Having got 'Phyllis' running lovely following Vac and leak offs swap and inlet and EGR clean, I was content. This weekend, my wife and I drove to Rennes, about a two hour round trip looking for a new kitchen. We were more than happy with the performance and economy that we were getting, but, I noticed a VERY slight misfire, now this was no more than a minor flutter, but it was there, and being a perfectionist, it would niggle me if left unattended. Today, whilst reading my favourite forum, I happened upon a thread about the MAP sensor. How could I have overlooked this?, I mean, I even disconnected it whilst removing the inlet manifold to clean it!. So today I removed the MAP sensor, cleaned it, and took 'Phyllis' for a spin. My God, what a transformation Once again, this forum enhances my Fronty ownership.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Dug spare steering idler out of the shed and replaced the bent one then took it to the local Turk's car valeting to get it jetwashed outside and underneath

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I didn't do all this today but bought 6m of vac pipe and replaced them all, one by awkward one, Changed oil and filter, changed tyre pressures up to 35psi for a wee experiment ( im running it on general grabber 2's). took spare wheel off back and bracket (also an experiment lol) replaced small piece of vac pipe i damaged fitting. Cleaned glow plugs and lead ends, topped up the water levels, refitted some loose dash trim (from the heater matrix replacement) and took it for a test run. HOLY S**T, what a difference. I have had a mid range power loss for a while now...Not anymore
Pulls like a train, acceleration is now brilliant, mid-range is back on song and i am a happy man. I also think it handles a bit better due to the spare tyre removal, though this maybe a placebo effect because of the engine going so strong. I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Finaly got around to replacing the 2 cracked valve guides, 2 bent inlet and 2 bent exhaust valves. Now to start rebuilding the engine, maybe sometime later as it's to cold outside

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I got one of those bluetooth rear view mirrors on ebay. Works great it clips over orignal mirror the display is not too annoying can hear and be heared fine, can upload phone book to it so it has caller display. Down side not voice activated the mirror glass is tinted great for glare at night but bit dark , It has a no house charger only a car charger that comes with a good length of cable so you can route it under dash and around window surround to mirror. The sunvisor catches it when i try to put it down as its slightly longer than the mirror.
