WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I'm ready
Just don't have time to go If it ain't broke, fix it before it does!! You know it will!!
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Broke down on the way home, which is not like me or the truck at all.
A wire had broken away from the sensor in the thermostat housing and took out a 15A fuse in the dash fuse box. This promptly dropped all power to the immobiliser and then in turn to the relay on the injection pump and it all went quiet, very very quiet.... The fun bit was it all happening as I was turning a corner, one that tries to put you into the front room of an adjacent cottage at the best of times. Pretty neat and defiantly very focusing to lose the power bit of the steering along with the vac assist to the brakes all at the same time Managed to miss the cottage (just) but did end up with the truck across the road right on a blind bend and it was Yellow watering down too. Managed to get it off the road using the emergency engine (starter motor) and parked up on the grass bank (got a new battery in there Fearing the worst (cam belt) did a quick once over while waiting for RAC man to tow the truck home. Tracked the fault down to the pump by the time he got there and then with the two of us we got it sorted in about ten mins. Points to RAC for getting there in about 15 mins from initial call (to be fair, RAC bod was on his way home and only lives in the next village over from me) and triple points for the guy in the house who made me a brew while I was waiting for the RAC bod. Points to note: 1. Fix the b****y loose wires as soon as they come loose! 2. Carry spare truck fuses and not a set of spare 11kv Fuses cos they don’t fit… 3. Don’t break down while turning a corner. 4. Don’t attack corners with enthusiasm (and then have the engine stop while doing it). 5. Don’t break down when it’s p*****g down with rain. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been
Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck. Comments on 'O-no' the truck may be left here Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Think my Range Rover has finally driven me insane, I can't ever remember giving up on a project motor but this one has more than tried my patience
Fitted the new oil cooler and pipes, topped up oil and it started up, oil pressure was good, left it at a fast idle for best part of an hour and hey presto no more oil leaks Still well down on power so stripped off inlet manifold, viscous fan and dug out my DTI and flywheel tool, checked timing and the lift was a tad outside of tolerance (0.02mm) so corrected it. Refitted all the engine bits and took it for a test drive and it had made no difference. Replaced the electronic injector (same design as the 2.5 Frontera) and still no power BUT... I now have a knock from the crank, looks like at least 1 of the big end bearings has gone I have now had the car for 7 months and it has consumed a huge amount of time and a fair few quid, think its time to chop it up and flog the bits on fleabay, defo won't get my money back if I sell it as it is, might stand a chance as a breaker tho Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!How the hell did we manage to bugger a 7ton strop!? I know we shredded that 2 ton rope but a 7 ton strop? Must of been wile winching because I don't believe even snatching at no more than 10mph can quadruple the weight of our trucks (assuming they weight about 1.7 ton)

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Today I have learnt that I need to learn how to clear the crap out of my fuel tank - there's approx £10 of fuel in, but it decided to splutter to nowt this afternoon whilst attempting to tow my trailer from one building to another with equipment in for PAT testing. Annoyed? Very
Added to that, I impatiently slammed the driver's door shut which very helpfully disloged the glass! Ended up pulling the whole thing (very carefully!) out. After an hour of calming down, and thanks to an old 2009 post on these very forums, I was able to remove the door card and replace the glass without any screws breaking or the glass smashing and now I have a working window again! Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!You could try taking it out laning and giving it some stick and making it bounce about abit, then when you get home change the fuel filter
