Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!During the week I have brush applied waxoyl to most of the accessible parts underneath. Hopefully this dry hot weather will continue and with the aid of the compressor I can inject more of the stuff into the hollows of the chassis rails and hard to get areas.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!This one's a hangover from Saturday, as I've not been on the forum since; the timing belt & tensioners, plus alternator and PAS belts were changed on Sophie.
Definitely worth doing, too, quite aside from the service book stamp saying it was done 10 years ago, when the rollers came off for replacement they were making some nasty noises For this though, HUGE THANKS are due to Snapper for his time and energies on the project. Frank very kindly offered the use of his drive for the job as he was planning on doing his too, so I could watch and ask stupid questions as required while doing mine. As it turned out though, his bits didn't arrive in time so it was just mine done, with Frank doing the bulk and me playing apprentice / tool passer. Thanks for Saturday bud, the truck is running just lovely and at least one odd noise from under the bonnet has gone (still sounds like a sack of spanners though, really must work out why at some point Proof of the pudding was in going back to Southampton via Gloucester and Salisbury when I visited CheekyChick and didnt fancy the motorway on the way back. Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!took my truck into get the air con re-gassed after fitting a new air con pump to find the pipe from the condensor down to the rad had been rubbing on the chassis and it had sawn half way through the pipe. so had to pull the grill forward to get to the pipe and them pull it out and get it welded. then put it all back together and tested it re-gassed and running cold as ice now an only cost £60 including the re-gas and pipe welded.
cracking job by http://www.autosupplies-nottingham.co.uk/air-conditioning cheers

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!No problem Jim, it was a good day and I'm glad it actually made it all the way home!
Roxy helped too.... Just look at those spanners, spankers they were, no sign of any grease, muck, use.... at all ![]() ![]() In true FOG tradition, some red-neck engineering was carried out, a technically weighed stack of bricks and a ratchet strap was used to tension it all up. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been
Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!New power steering belt and alternator belt. Was no where near as difficult as the one we did at the annual on Bobbinsjobs 2.8 funnily. Belt just slipped straight on. Also meant I have the right length belt on the power steering pump as the one I had was for an air-con version. They are longer so had to redneck a fix for it. Now its all back to how it should be.
Talking to the guy at the parts shop he pointed out the belts for these engines are extra heavy duty bringing them to agricultural/commercial standard. Also noticed the fitting for the power steering pump hose was leaking (well it has been for ages, but thought I should do something about it today) This is the fella: ![]() Took it out and changed the o'rings. Looks like problem solved.
