Finished putting together after doing head gaskit :dance:

Passenger window winder.

Tested the new motor on the battery and it worked fine ... result!

Pulled the passenger door card off again (takes me less than a minute including all the handles, ash tray, etc etc) ... result!

Wrestled the mechanism out of the door without breaking the glass ... result!

Compared the Mk.II/III mechanism to my Mk.I version. Although different levers etc the motors were exactly the same apart from the plugs ... result!

Swapped the motors over on the mechanisms and got it back into the door without breaking the glass ... result!

Jury rigged the wiring together and pressed the down button on the drivers door. Window went down ... result!

Pressed the up button and nothing happened ... ar$e!

Pressed both buttons on the passenger side switch and nothing happened ... ar$e!

Remembered that I had 3 spare switches in the garage ... result!

Realised it was now dark ... ar$e!

Trashed the neatly stacked piles of Trooper spares all over the floor in an effort to find switches, as I couldn't really see what I was doing ... ar$e!

Found switches ... result!

Tried all three and no better ... ar$e!

Reversed the wiring on the motor where I jury rigged it and window wound up, meaning window is now shut again ... result!

Got old motor and pulled back the wires and tested it directly on the battery, only to find it works both ways ... was an ar$e of a result!

Realised I might as well put the old motor back on as that means I don't have to start messing about soldering new plugs/terminals on the "new" motor ... result!

Realised I spent approx £20 on a window mechanism I didn't really need ... ar$e!

Couldn't be ar$ed to pull the mechanism out again so slung the old motor and spare switches in the boot of the truck and taped up all exposed wires ... ar$e!

Put the door card and respective switches, handles, ash tray etc on again in less than 30 seconds (starting to time myself now) without breaking anything ... result.

Back at square one, but this time I now realise I have to diagnose a dodgy electrical system on a 22 year old vehicle with no wiring diagram ... ar$e!

At least I am slowly getting to the cause of the problem Fogman. One day I will have an operating passenger window ... one day.

Igotababyfrontera, good choice of CB. I got the same one for mySWB and a mates Disco, that was 3 years ago and they're both still going strong, the auto-squelch is a big bonus. The only downside is you can't change channels from the mic, though I've never missed that function that was on my previous rig (used to dap the wrong but and change channel inadvertently).

I'm sure you'll be please with it. Supplier has a very good aftersale service with info and other help should you need it.

Nice to know I got something right

changed the rear dif pan for a 2nd hand one due to having a slight leak & presumed it was holed, once off & inspected inside it looked solid & ok :shock:

so it must of not been sealed at the top properly or the connector for the breather pipe was leaking.

Just found a pic of when my truck was clean, prestine and scratch free with nothing broken......oh the distant memories!!!!! So I have been inspired and tried to clean it up, only to reveal more rust and scratches, should have left it dirty.
