Wheel fell off

Postby stevelee24 on Mon Feb 25, 2008 6:15 pm

picked my fronty sport up from the MOT garage the other day after it sitting on my drive for 3 months.
within the firs 30 mins of it being back on the road i heard loud popping sounds from the wheel
next thing i knew my wheel flew off and i scrapped across the ground about 15 feet....

it turns out the wheel nuts where not tightened and 5 mins before the wheel come off i was doing 70 on the motorway so i was pretty lucky.

anyway apart from a new wing bcz the wheel crushed it the car was unharmed the lower ball joint nut took all the force of the road and it was fine.

my point is always check your nuts

Years ago when I owned a Rally Mini I called in for a pint (as one could in them there days with no fears of having ones collar felt). When I was driving down the road latter that night, the O/S/F wheel decided to part company with the hub. The next night, I again went for a bit more lubrication and found 3 of my wheel nuts, which must have decided they liked the pub, in the car park. Strange or what
