programmer needed

Postby james'll fix it on Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:54 pm

hi,

I'm after a programmer to "knock up" a prog.

what I need is to control a modem connected to my telephone line.

1. remote dialler dials my number(I can supply you a dialler and instructions how it works)
2. pc picks up
3. there is then a connect tone. (have details of frequency and time)
4. remote dialler transmits data as dtmf, 4digit account number and 10 numbers.(I have found a decoder http://www.polar-electric.com/DTMF/Index.html#Encoder
5. handshake signal and disconnect for next incomming call

I think I could do number 3, its just the control of the modem in 1,2,3,5

I then need to use the information received to automate other functions, but one step at a time!!

Any help is good help.

Ta

James

Most modems will automatically provide numerical data according to the tone received already so you don't need to 'decode' anything per se, just recover the data from the modems data stack :)

see what you mean.

I have possibly found a solution, asterix voip. that apparantly can decode the format I can use, and act upon it accordingly. I'm going to download it, install on a spare machine and have a play.

Or I've just been quoted 50 pounds a month for rental of a pager server, which is basically what I'm trying to achieve.

If there are any examples of reading the modem stack I'd like to have a look at them, it may be simpler. Once I get the data the rest is not to hard.

Can I ask what platform you're coding this on?

I used to do a lot of similar stuff with Delphi back in my 'white hat' days if you get my drift. Might still have some source code sitting on a HDD somewhere too. I'll have a butchers.

Someone mention Asterisk?

It's not for the feint hearted, but I can make it sing pretty well - however I think that what you are after, Asterisk would be a bit overkill ...

Looking at a different route with asterisk.

there is a module for alarm receiving, thought I could use that.

got aah up and running, two softfones on laptops talking.

can't get sipgate.co.uk to work though, sip show peers says its online, sipgate homepage says offline. I've been on it a few days and its starting to hurt my head!!

If you can help alchamist I'd be very happy, I've got some details in trunks of freepbx, added nameserver.

It may be a router issue, I have a belkin router, dmz to aah server, but no port forwarding yet.

my end setup I want is pstn line in, aah picks up alarm message, send detail to another prog to look up account number and send text message to account holders mobile(s). I'm looking to do the account handling in c++, or learn something like visual basic.

Hmm .. define "alarm message" ...

If you are monitoring systems, then nagios might be the way to go ... asterisk voice recognition is not the best (unless you want to spend BIG bucks). The sipgate can be a pain in the backside, especially if you are behind a NAT'ted router. SIP + NAT = Headache!

Drop me a PM with details of exactly what you want to do, and I'll have a thunk and let you know if I have any ideas :)
