Difficulty Level
Easy
Estimated time to complete
30 minutes
Method
- put truck in high gear, chock the wheels if necessary, jack the chassis up and place on axel stands (safety first, never work off just a jack)
- remove fuel filter guard - 1x 12mm bolt - 2x 12mm nuts and fuel filter bracket - 2x 12mm bolt
- with one set of molegrips, tightly clamp the fuel-in pipe (take care not to split the pipe thought)
- with the other set of grips, do the same for the fuel-out pipe
- release the spring clips from both fuel lines
- with the small flat blade screw driver, gently ease the fuel-in pipe off the in-valve
- hold the filter canister over the empty container and unscrew the drain plug at the bottom (dont forget to tighten it back up when the canister is emptied)
- now ease the pipe off the fuel-out valve
- the canister should now only be connected by the elecric plug (this can be left connected)
- unscrew the T30 screw on the top of the canister, lift off the cannister lid and remove the filter cartridge and the O-ring
- clean out the cannister of any debris with a little fresh diesel
- fit the new filter cartridge
- holding the canister vertically under the fueil-in pipe, back off the pressure on the molegrips until fuel starts to flow
- when the cannister is full to the top, re-tighten the molegrips on the fuel-in line
- fit the new O-ring which should come with the new filter
- carefully re-fit the lid and tighten the T30 screw
- re-fit the fuel-out pipe and the spring clip
- re-fit the fuel-in pipe and the spring clip
- release the molegrips on the fuel-in line then the fuel-out line
- re-fit the filter housing to the chassis with the 2x 12mm bolts
- refit guard plate with 2x 12mm nuts and 1x 12mm bolt
- lower the vehicle from the axle stands and put gear to neutral
- turn on the ignition. it may take a few cranks to fire up as there will be the tiniest bit of air in the pipes but it should fire up after a few seconds.
- pack up your tools and crack open a cold one, job done
It is advisable to purchase a LASER Diesel Injection Priming Tool (about £11) incase you let too much air into the pipes as the system will then need bleeding. I have an unused one that I will gladly lend out to members who require it. :D
This whole job only took me about 20 minutes or so, no missing knuckles, no swearing and no spare bit at the end
