Applies to

Required equipment

  • Trolley jack
  • Two axle stands
  • Four wheel chocs

Difficulty Level

  • Easy

Estimated time to complete

  • 1-2 hours

Method

Inside the car, empty out your centre console and remove the two screws at the bottom, then lift off the centre console over the handbrake lever, there may be two clips at the front edge, mine had been broken off, so the front had screws in it.

Place the wheel chocs in front and behind the front wheels. Jack up the rear axle and then support the rear axle with the axle stands, so that the rear wheels are just off the ground and can be rotated. Lower the axle onto the stands.

Then at the rear wheels, with the handbrake off, remove the small rubber plug at the bottom of the wheel, through the small hole you can use a screw driver to rotate the adjuster wheel.

Rotate it downwards until the wheel just starts to rub on the brakes, then rotate it upwards until the wheel turns freely. Do the same for the other wheel. Refit both rubber plugs. Now back inside the car, pull the handbrake lever up 5 clicks, then undo the locking nut and turn the adjuster nut until you can't turn the rear wheels. Tighten up the locking nut, check that with handbrake off the wheels still turn freely. Refit the centre console. Pull handbrake on.

Jack up the rear axle to remove the axel stands. Lower the car slowly, remove the front wheel chocs. Put tools away, and you are done, now when you put the handbrake on, your fronty wont move on a steep hill and it will pass the MOT too.
