1998 2.2i won't run

Postby N44hnd on Fri May 26, 2017 10:57 pm

I have just changed the engine in my frontera, I can get it to fire up but it won't run just keeps cutting out it did run for about 10min's i turned it off and I have the problem of not running. Every time it fires up it just cuts out and the engine management light is flashing. Anybody have any idea what it could be thanks

Immobiliser.

As the MIL is flashing, this is now immobilising the engine.

Check your key transponder, pickup loop and connections to the immobiliser box under the drivers side dash.

Usually, this wouldn't run for more than a few seconds so I suggest that you may of had more than one issue if it ran for 10 minutes.. Fuel as Stretch said, maybe crank sensor ( intermittent ) As there is no spark when this fails.

Check compression, fuel supply and spark, engine earths, engine loom.. Work back from there.

I changed the crank sensor still no joy all of the wires are OK no breaks or any left not connected. Could it be the injectors as I didn't use the original ones could they be coded or are they plug and play thanks for previous reply

Hello bud.

It would be a big help to everyone, if you could give abit more information on what Frontera you have rather than 1998 2.2i. This way it narrows it down for other members with advice and ideas for you.

Welcome to the wonderful world of fog.
