Which one...MecArm Clutch.. or LUK.. or Sachs

Postby BarnsleyTom86 on Thu Dec 01, 2016 3:14 pm

HI All,

I'm new here, I've got a 52 2.2 DTI LWB.. I bought it with a few issues and one of which was that it wasn't boosting. Now I've replaced some bits (turned out to be the vac lines) It's got plenty of power! Now the clutch is slipping when I put my foot right down, mostly in 4th and 5th. Anyway, I do most repairs myself but I don't want to undertake the clutch. I can get it done at a friends garage for £150 + Kit and here are my options

MecArm £100
LUK £175
Sachs £180

I'm sure the clutch will last longer than the rest of the car which is why I am tempted by the cheaper option but there is no review of any MecArm clutches anywhere. I'm going to be doing some off roading and towing a car transporter trailer too so I don't want to buy cheap and buy twice!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

Thanks in Advance :D

Exedy is OEM spec. LUK are tried and tested. I would avoid cheap .. especially if towing heavy stuff.

LuK is about your best option there. They're what I fit where possible, and I've never had any trouble

Thank you very much for the responses.

I'll go for the LUK

Sounds the best option

Apologies for jumping in on this one but anybody got any views on AP clutches. Seller says new and NOT refurbished. I'm only interested in the clutch plate and bearing as the friction plate will not be required (going Trooper with that item).

I've had my clutch done at last!

I had the clutch removed and I took it to Calder Clutches in Huddersfield for referb. They refurbished the back plate.. Swapped the old Worn out LUK friction plate for another plate with proper LUK Friction on it and changed the thrust bearing for £60! It was like an new kit

They offer a postage service but they don't know what clutch you have until it gets in front of them but It was better than paying over £200-£300 for a new 3 piece kit
