Sorted out tHe exhaust system. Thought I'd go the route of taking the paddle out of the QWS unit and put the spacer section back in rather than risk over stretching the spring. After successfully removing the paddle blanking off the shaft hole, god back under the motor for reassemble only to find that I had bought the wrong bolts. Needed 75mm rather than the 50mm the I had bought. Ended up stretching the spring season in effect wasted 3 hours flaffing about getting the paddle out and breaking a few drills for nothing.

Finally got round to getting the old bush's out of the spare trailing arms and panhard rod, the arms and rod all cleaned up and painted and then fitting the sparkly new thermoplastic polyurethane polyester based bush kit from Milner's.

Apparently they come in their trademark orange ya knows. The bushes are renowned for their high tensile strength compression memory set and abrasion resistance. And they locate in the lower and upper trailing arms and panhard rod which join the rear axle to the chassis. Also come with bolts and nuts too!

The new ones were somewhat easier to fit than the old un's were to get out which took a 20 tonne press to shift!

The shiny newly re-furbished bits will be on the Truck by Sat, then the process starts all over again to get a set ready to go onto O-no.
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Replaced all of the rear trailing arms and the panhard rod on Truck with the newly re-bushed ones and taken it for a test drive. Much better. Just got the front end to re-bush now. Oh and the old trailing arms and Panhard rod to de-bush, clean up and re-bush ready to go onto the other 2.8.

Put new pads on the front, she's been pulling to the left and seemed a bit sluggish lately, passenger side was all the way down to the mettle and the piston was stuck out all freed up and running smoothe. She's had a new lease of life.

New tyres arrive tomorrow.

If it turns into a hunt for a replacement Rob, hunting down the Trooper route could prove to be an option. Going Trooper, I'm sure I read that a newer Mk4 will fit onto a Mk2/3. Then in turn, could well fit your 2.8. Worth an investigation to get a newer steering box.

Today I've skinned my knuckles, elbow and got covered in oil replacing the alternator, which was OK, apart from trying to get the damn 14mm nut on the back again! It pinged off a few times, then hid. Now I need to find a spare, as I'm sure the pixies have stolen this one....

Apart from that, it all works fine, is charging and that makes me happy

Worked out fuel consumption for my dti, on a recent 700 mile mission, dragging an 800kg ifor, delivering an engine on the way out, and collecting another frontera, then a journey 350 mile back through snowdonia, and hillyness of the west midlands...
And the old girl did 33mpg overall...not bad for a 185,000 y22dth dti!!!

Truck. Not much, just a few small jobs. Front end, both sides. Changed the upper wishbones. Front brake hoses. Replaced the last 200mm of the brake lines on both sides (had to cut it to get the pipe out of the way to replace the wishbones). Brake callipers. Brake pads. Top ball joints. Bottom ball joints. Front wheel bearings and seals. Steering knuckle support bearing, shim and seal. Drive shaft CV joint boots.
