Was at a local P&P site on the weekend, nothing new there and have been there loads of times. Was with a group of lads I normally go with and they all drive LR's of various sorts. They are pretty impressed with where the Frontera goes (and they can't ) so I let a few of them drive it unaccompanied. While driving home I was pretty sure the new steering idler I fitted the other week was bent as the steering wheel wasn't in its usual straight ahead position but other than that it was fine. Imagine my surprise tonight when I put it over the pit to find something missing and some damage to the wheel rim

Driveshaft has escaped Looks like the cup on the CV joint has sheared off They are Milner CV joints though of unknown provenance, I replaced both on the BRB a few years back after breaking a factory one and then put them on the SWB when fitting the Trooper front axle This was the previous carnage

Milners poop....there CV's lasted approx 3 mins from when I engaged 4wd in my old landcruiser! LOL
There solution was for me to buy two more, and send the damaged ones back, whereupon they would then send them off to their supplier for analysis, and then if they confirmed they were a manuafacturing defect, then Milners would refund me the 2nd set I bought...Timescale "unknown" in their own words... The quizzed me about taking it offroad, I argued a TLC should be fine with that..thats what its designed for, and then they started ranting about difflocks, which were a factory fitted option on my TLC with I argued was irrelevant... (I did forget to mension the standard 265 75 15 tyres had been replaced wih 38.5x16x15's on trail ready beadlocks, but on the other hand they didnt ask about what tyres I was running...) My credit card company got my money back of milners, and I bought some CV's of awesomeness from Marlin Crawler in the states that lasted me for years...

Ratcav It does get lots of off road action, probably far more than Vauxhall intended but with the lift I'm running doesn't help, Abused, depends on your definition I do try to be sympathetic to the mechanicals but I am pushing past its limits at times so you expect some carnage Greg: think I would have to agree with you on the quality, managed 3 years so not too bad but the nature of the failure surprised me

How many pictures do you have of your truck with both front wheels point inwards Milners have started stocking genuine Isuzu stuff like hub needle bearings. However .. how long that will last I don't know, and stuff like that is just as cheap from Isuzu themselves, and you don't have to pay delivery. Also the number of things that Milners supply which just don't fit and/or break in 3 months I just don't take the risk. False economy.

Mmm, very good point although to be fair while there are quite a few pictures of the wheels cross eyed I have only done it twice, once in Bala at the FOG annual and once at Ty Rhiw farm The steering idler however is another issue, think I've done 4 or 5 five now, original ones are best, none of the aftermarket ones can withstand serious off road action

Strip a LHD steering box out and use that instead of an idler...that should be stronger...I toyed with running two steering boxes to give more steering power when front is locked up, but figured it would just destroy the track rods so didnt pursue it any further...

That was my plan, did look for one a while back but failed to find one, did think about using the Pittman arm and shaft off a right hand drive steering box and making one

Have you asked JEOH (based in Germany) to see if he can get you one. Failing that if you are on the Trooper Owners Club group on FB there are a lot of foreign members who may help.

I was surprised how 'soft' that CV shaft metal is. A few years back some bar-steward decided to nick one of my manual hubs and forgot to bring their circlip removers. Reckon they chipped the teeth/splines off to get over the problem which left me with the problem of how to secure the clip when the replacement hub was fitted. Simply cut a deeper groove with the axe saw which done the job. What I can't say is if the CV joint was original or aftermarket/copy because the truck was 15 years old when I got it.
