Project/smartAbout a month ago I purchased smart FourTwo for not much money as it was burning oil and leaving a smoke trail like a red arrow on show day. In the last few weekends I have been busy removing/rebuilding and finally today after many hours started up for the first time an all appears to be good.
It's a 0.6 Ltr 3 cylinder turbo'd engine that is not bad at all to drive ( I did almost 300 miles in it before it finally died before repairs) and got about 41mpg! This should be more like 55mpg now using all 3 cylinders. My question is, I am thinking of.getting another one as a project and trying to fit a larger engine for fun. I have seen videos of people that have used heyabusa or GSXR engines where there is loads of power, but torque is very low. I would be looking to fit a car engine ( suggestions please ) so that I can make a "sleeper" something that's looks standard smart but goes like stink. Probably need to be transverse engine.. But I'm open to suggestions. VX or M-B would be preferable as I have those diags tools. Fronty B, 2002 3.2 V6

Re: Project/smartGood luck fitting a V6 into a Smart fourtwo.
Good luck finding one as well. LET is a good option. Small block for huge power gains. Re: Project/smartLol you'll need to fit a wheelie bar don't forget or you'll be doing back flips off the lights

Re: Project/smart
That could only fit where the passenger seat goes! Nice idea but probably overkill! C20let - Any particular cars have these? I was also looking at Zafira VXR engines maybe a possibility..?
That's going to be an interesting problem to stop that.. maybe some tilt sensors needed!! This is a nice one... Last edited by vauxsqueeks on Mon Feb 01, 2016 1:53 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Re: Project/smartMost common place to find a c20let at the mo would be in a Nova or Corsa!

Re: Project/smartC20LET was also Cavalier turbo (4x4).
As Greg says they went through a phase of being ripped out and slammed into Astra's and Corsa's Another option is SR18DET and SR20DET. If SR20DET then try and source a Nissan Pulsar as they were tiny FWD cars. Re: Project/smartIf it's small enough, a 4efte engine from the Toyota Starlets could be a good one - the 1.3 4efe (non-turbo) was torquey enough to pull a caravan. I know lots of the Starlet peeps were putting the turbo'd engines in the 4wd Starlets for drifting, heh

Liking this... SR20VE The 2.0 L SR20VE has Nissan's Neo VVL variable valve timing with lift control. It produces 190 PS (139 kW) @7000 rpm and 144 lb·ft (196 Nm) @6000 rpm and later (2001–2003) 205 PS (150 kW) @7200 rpm and 206 nm @5200 rpm. Thanks for the suggestions, Ill start researching.. Re: Project/smartIs this the 2 door/seat version John?
If it's that shape, doesn't the engine bolt onto the rear axle? That will make some interesting fettling with another sort of mount design lump going onto it. The Brabas versions have a turbo 900c.c. engine which gives a bit more umph. Trouble is sourcing one, not trying pee on your bonfire, but wouldn't have there would be much left once one of these have been in a pile up.
Re: Project/smart
Yes, Yes.
I am stocking up on grinding disks
There are several versions now, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 ( diesel ), 0.9 and latest are just over 1.0 now I think.. but you are still fairly limited on what you can do with a 0.6l. assuming that you get the Roadster engine/bigger turbo & Induction pipe/more sporty cam its still small engine @ about 100bhp! You can tune as much as you want/can ( at a cost ), but IMHO there is no replacement for raw power. Researching now.. maybe it will happen or not yet but for now.. It's ON!
They are surprisingly strong.. but the old saying says it best... "The weakest part of the car is the nut behind the wheel". Seriously though, there comes a point that no matter how strong it is.. the body just cant take the g-force.. Fronty B, 2002 3.2 V6
