Yeah tpieces should have been replaced as well. You may have left a pipe off by accident or connected it wrong.

I'll get the truth of it tomorrow, if I've screwed up that's life. .....every day's a learning day. ;)

Picked the car up and had a good long chat with Rob and Paul about what had failed/gone wrong with it.

The pair of them were driving around with with all the main vac' hoses connected to a multiple vac' unit on Robs lap, everything was giving the correct readings when it did what it does best, completely died then turned into a smoking bucking bronco.....turned it round and chugged back to the garage.

Now even though this has a full stamped up VX service history all of it's life they immediately both said fuel starvation. Pressure tested the pump which was giving some very odd readings so they thought blockage in the system....so they dropped the fuel filter. They are both adamant that what they found was the original factory fitted filter which had never ever been changed in all it's sixteen years of it's life. While they were at it they blew/purged the fuel system. fitted a new filter, bled the system and fired it up. The pump pressure was now stable, no more bucking bronco, no more smoke !!!

I've just taken it for a 100 mile thrash on various different roads, motorway included and it's like driving a different car. Nice little kick in the back once you get to 3k, absolutely no smoke from the exhaust (not even black sooty stuff) and a nice grunty power delivery low down in the revs.....£40 so far

Never seen one with original fuel filter in as they don't take long to go bad but at least you got it sorted.
