First Frontera.

Postby V8Rik on Thu Oct 05, 2017 4:17 pm

We've just bought a Frontera Sport RS 2.2 DTI in time warp condition, 40K with not a mark on it, very nice. :D

Everything works as it should, even most of the dash !!! .....speedo's a bit hit and miss, works when it feels like.

We've bought it to take accross to our house in Bulgaria where the roads off the beaten track are pretty bad and are slowly destroying our Jag out there.

Is there anything I should be looking carefully at before we do the 3K drive over there, things that fall off, generally go wrong being used for sixteen hours at a stretch.

This will be our second attempt at taking a 4x4 over there, the first time was with a top of the range Pajero.....heaving pile of unreliable scrap which we try not to talk about.

Wow that's looks very nice. Speedo will be related to dry joint on the clocks assembly common fault on these. Worth thinking about if you have suitable tyres for the terrain you expect to encounter.

Thanks Stretch.

The tyres are very road biased which will be good for the trek over. Big Russian mud pluggers are reasonably priced and easily available over there...... snow chains are on order as a lot of the road system legally requires them to be fitted.

Looks like I'm firing up the soldering iron and ripping the instrument binicle out this weekend. !!!

Looks very nice, excellent!

If for snow conditions, wouldn't ATs be a better choice? Far more Tarmac friendly than MTs plus allegedly better in the snow.
On the 2.2DTI, don't let the fuel run dry. Fuel pump can burn out if not lubriicated correctly and priming can be a flaf.
The only other thing that comes to mind is the rubber vulcanised bottom pulley and vacuum pipes when wear and tear comes into play. Every motor as it's quirks and credit to the DTI, we knew of one on here that done over 600k miles before what is believed the fuel pump let go. It was serviced at the correct intervals so shows what can be achieved with TLC.
