fishy smell

Postby aredee on Sat Feb 25, 2017 9:51 pm

I know this sounds like a wind up but its not. my fronty has a fishy smell like a slipping clutch except its an auto ,i thought at first it was from an old dishwasher that i took to the tip that had leaked in the car but after cleaning it all up and leaving a week the smell had gone then within about 10 miles it came back .brakes dont get over hot and ive checked under neath in case some kind prankster had taped an old kipper to exhaust .Is there anything else that could give off unpleasant smells as it gets hot

Aye, a shredded mackerel dropped down the air vents....

Not that we ever disposed of the unwanted mackerel caught by the grockles on the fishing boat trips during the summer, no siree we didn't stuff dead fish into....
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Being serious now, slight coolant leak spraying onto the cylinder head or exhaust manifold smells a bit, but I think you may have already identified the source.

Leaky fluids from the dishwasher, while a quick clean may seem to have sorted matters on the day if the stuff has soaked into the carpet and possibly further you are going to have to give it more than a quick wipe. I got the carpets in Truck wet once (sans fullbrooke ford). Despite a good clean and dry out the smell from the damp carpets lasted weeks.

thanks for replies i dont appear to be losing any water from the cooling system although i do still have a problem with the engine not warming up enough (gauge only ever just above the blue unless i just leave idling for 1/2 hr).and i only use the car at the weekend it smells ok after being left closed up for 5 days ,so would have thought the carpets must be reasonably clean
