To hot under the collar

Postby 1packabs on Wed Jul 20, 2016 6:52 pm

As we are having such hot weather at the moment my poor old 3.2 v6 frontera is struggling.
Normally the temperature sits just over the 80 mark. But when I hit traffic she creeps up the the 100 mark and seems to sit there.
It has never gone into the red yet but I find myself putting it into neutral to raise the revs a little and the temp starts to drop back down again.
Is this a thermostat problem or is a electric kenlow fan required as the viscus fans are naff?
Any advice would be great as I have some towing to do next week.

Viscous fan unit should be working and don't give too many problems. Quite a few.....and me have binned it and used the twin fan unit off the 2.2 and fitted a thermo switch in the top hose. I did mine purely for economy.....probably doesnt make a measurable difference but makes you feel it does!. If your getting hot then open your windows and turn the heater full on. The heater it quite efficient and will get the temp down a bit until you can rectify the problem.

if your having to rev it to get the temp down that might point to a failing water pump or possibly a partial blockage in the coolant system !
