Help! 4wd problems and body lift help!

Postby JAJ on Sat Jul 09, 2016 11:03 am

Hi all, picked up a frontera a week or so ago, it's a 1999 SWB 2.2 dti, (I have never had a 4x4 before) for the last few days the light on the dash that indicates the 4wd is working has been flashing while it is supposed to be disengaged (in 2wd) it remains solid when I push the button as if the 4wd is working correctly, however, I jacked it up today so that all 4 wheels were off the ground, put it in gear and let it run. Only the offside front wheel and the nearside rear wheel span. This happened in both 2wd and 4wd. I am lost with this and I really need to try and sort it today as I need the truck for work! My mobile number is 07730374829 should anybody wish to give me a call and offer some advice as I have no idea.

I was also going to attempt a body lift however I have no idea how to access the top of the bolt on the rear mounting point as it is incased in the metal around the light?
Cheers in advance,
Jed

hi mate ive got no input as to body lift as not done yet but the 4 wd system relies on the vac pipes being in good order its a job that most have done on here and is worth doing even if they look good as its relatively cheap

Rear bolt are accessed from the inside. You'll need to take off the trim.

I removed the plastic trim but on the corner of the body it is solid metal ( only a few small holes along it) I can see the top of the bolt but there is no way of getting to it to stop it spinning - short of cutting a hole in the metal with an angle grinder :?
Cheers

Aren't the rear body mount bolts all captive nuts on the B series. You only have to get underneath and undo the bolt (very carefully)

The bolt goes down. You should be able to get a socket and ratchet on it. I have on both my b series lab that I have lifted.
It is tight but it works.
Getting the new bolt in is a different story as it is too long to get in without cutting anything. On both of mine Ive put the bolt up and the nut on the top, so basically upside down to standard.
Never had a problem with it this way in 7 years.
This is with a 2" body lift.

You should be able to get the old bolts out without cutting anything. Have dome this on 2 b series lwb and as both mine were v6s, 8 wondered if the dti was different so whilst I had the trim out at the weekend to run some wiring took a look on the dti.
