Its been a while...

Postby Sir-Doris on Tue May 31, 2016 1:45 am

Hi all.
Its been a while since Ive posted anything. The truck has been off the road since 2012 (give or take a few months). Mainly due to lack of interest and a rather nasty motorcycle accident which left me unable to drive for a while.

Well finally got the impetus to fiddle about with it today and get Olga back on the road.

So gearbox off. New clutch installed and new cat and exhaust fitted.

Thats all for now but it does need a new wheel bearing and new CV boots along with ball joints and anti roll bar links on the rear and a host of electrical gremlins and seized door locks from lack of use.

At least its moving again.

Phil.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!

Thanks guys.

Well, had a couple of hours spare today so managed to get all the door locks working. Central locking only opens the doors when locked but wont lock them. Still at least they all open from inside and outside.
All indicators and hazards now working.

Timing belt kit and service items on the way along with a new auxilliary belt tensioner.

To do:
Power steering box is leaking.
Steering idler is shot.
Clutch master and slave cylinders to change. Clutch works but drawing in air somewhere, both 21 years old so worth changing.
Upper and lower ball joints both sides.
Rear anti roll bar links.
Rear shocks are pitted and leaking.
Wire brush and waxoil everything.
5 new tyres.
Rear brake lines.
Fuel pipes rotten.
2 CV boots.
Wheel bearing
Brake pads all round.
Small hole in rear sill needs cutting out and new metal letting in.
Handbrake shoes and cables.

Im sure the list will grow as i work my way through it. Got the bit between my teeth now though

Realised today that the last time I used it would have been sometime towards the end of 2011. The tax disc in the window expired on the 31/12/2011.
From memory most of the things that are wrong with it were in need of doing before I parked it up after my last outing when i got stuck in silty mud in the middle of a pond at an anual meet about 5 minutes after I arrived. Must have been the 2011 one methinks.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!

Thanks Keith, Jim.

Certainly up for it. Will be a few weeks yet i guess.

I feel slightly saddened that Ive let the truck get into such a state over the last 5 years. While it wasnt exactly my pride and joy I tended to fix things as they went wrong so now I have to fix not only the things that went wrong after my last outing in 2011 but the things that have stopped working/broken due to sheer neglect.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!

That sounds like normal fronty maintenance to me! You'll get her back, was an iconic truck with all that lift on it.
