indicator / wiper assemblyhave to change indicator / wiper assembly on 3.2 frontera, just wondering if this is a straight forward fix or anything to look out for, more concerned about airbag than anything else, any advice greatly appreciated, mick
Re: indicator / wiper assemblyEasy.
Pretty straight forward if you have basic tools, take your time and use your eyes. Would disconnect the battery for about half an hour before touching the air bag, and everything should come off easy without being forced. Lower trim has a screw holding vent piping in place.
Re: indicator / wiper assemblyRemember to screw the nut back on the column a couple of turns before you yank of the steering wheel...saves it hitting you in the face when it lets go!
Also worth checking the shear bolts on the ignition barrel are tight when you are in there, they frequently work loose and cause the steering to clunk. Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: indicator / wiper assemblysorry to be vague, does the steering wheel and air bag come off as one
Re: indicator / wiper assemblyTwo screws on the back of the steering wheel (torx IIRC) remove the airbag cassette. This lifts out, and you squeeze the yellow plug to disconnect it...
Position steering wheel straight (so you can put it back in the same position) undo the 17mm (IIRC) nut in the middle of the steering wheel...thread the nut back on a couple of turns...Sitting in the drivers seat pull hard on the steering wheel and wiggle side to side...It will then come loose off its spline taper. Go and get tissues for nose bleed, if you forgot to thread the nut back on a couple of turns like I said! Remove the steering cowel, several philips screws which go up through the casing from underneath...You might need to drop the under dash trim to get to a couple of the screws, but this is simple enough which just a couple of screws holding it in place. You will need to drop this to get to the plug/socket for your stalks anyway. You dont need to undo the bonnet cable clip, it will move enough on the cable. With the column cowel removed, a couple of philips screws then secure the stalks to the ignition barrel assy...Remove the screws, follow the wiring down to the plug, cut of the cable tie that sometimes secures the stalk loom to the ignition loom so they will separate, unplug and slide the stalk assembly off the end of the column. Clock spring may or may not be supplied with your replacement stalks, this will need unplugging and comes off with the stalks. Refitting is simply the reverse of the above. Its really straightforwards...The only thing I can think that would be worth watching out for is making sure that your philips screwdriver is a good fit into the screws, and push hard when you try and undo them, particularly on the back of the steering wheel, and the ones that go into the barrell that hold the column cowel on. these can be quite tight, and a bad fitting screwdriver could result in these rounding sooner than coming undone, which then makes it a pain. Most of the screws on the cowel go into plastic, and come undone easily. Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: indicator / wiper assemblybrilliant reply and thanks very much, was thinking along the right lines but just wary of the air bag
Re: indicator / wiper assembly
Oh, I remember that pain, and the cut on the nose, and the two faint black eyes only to well
Re: indicator / wiper assemblyok sorry may have been a bit hasty with original post, rear wiper does not work and i know it could be motor which i will check this weekend but also front wipers will not park, when in correct position they will jump about 4", with both problems thought wiper assy but being told it may be easier fix, any ideas?
Re: indicator / wiper assemblyIt wont be the wiper motor or the stalks, it will be the module that controls the rear wiper 99% of the time. Is located behind the far left heater vent, accessed by dropping the glove box, and is a orange/yellow/blue box with a code on it like AC3 or AC2 or something. If you get the code, I might have the right one that you need.

Re: indicator / wiper assemblythanks gregster, i get the feeling you may be a useful fella to know, will have a look when im home tomorrow night and be in touch
Re: indicator / wiper assemblyok glove box off and spotted unit with numerous wires connected, blue vauxhall name strip at top and orange bottom, looks like one screw holding in place but for the life of me cannot get it to turn, have sprayed it and will try again when i get back later, looks like part no on unit 8971863990
Re: indicator / wiper assemblyThat is the wrong unit. You are looking for something that looks like this sat behind what you have just described:
Sometimes they are bright blue or bright yellow instead of bright orange. All have AC2 or AC3 on a label in the corner though.
