Does the light flicker at idle by any chance? ;)

I would do an oil pressure check with a calibrated meter (engine cold, tick over and under load. Then at running temp, tick over and under load) before ripping the thing apart to get at the oil pump.

There's a lot of things that could be the culprit starting at a knacked pressure sender/switch, worn main journal bearing shells, worn big end bearing shells, worn pump, broken spring in the pressure relief valve etc etc....
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Both my 2.3TD's suffered from oil light flickering at idle. Never bothered me as oil circulated. However here are some threads to read:

Both my 2.3's did that. made me panic at first, but got used to it. So long as it goes out when the revs pick up you should be fine. Just make sure the level is fine, and every now and then after a run pop the oil filler cap off and check everything has a coating of oil on it.

This is of course that you have no other metal grinding, no oil in the pistons noises. If you can here them over the engine that is.

I have had this problem ( ie low oil pressure on tickover when hot ) since I bought my 2.3TD. I have fitted new oil pump gears, pressure relief valve, and new gauge sender unit. not with much improvement. I use 15w/40 mineral oil for the winter, and 20w/50 mineral in the winter, with Moly slip Engine protector.
It is worth checking that the oil cooler is working, mine is not, Unfortunately the thermostat is no longer available from VW/OPEL. I have been searching for one since I bought the Fronty 6 years ago and now with 223,000 kms on the clock it runs well every day. ....Peter.

My Frontera never had the oil pressure issue until now.

As I was aware of this problem, about 3 years, I replaced the gears of the oil pump as well as the spring.

However recently my oil light started flickering but the motor sounds fine. I´m currently using a 15W40 oil and the oil pressure at idle is about 15 psi...which worries me.

The bad thing about this, is that I´ve lost the confidence on taking the frontera for long trips.
