Yesterday on way home from work I used it to stop traffic on the a10 as there was a car in the middle of the road with a snapped tie rod. A defender was already there getting his tow rope out so I left him drag it into the nearby lay-by until her recovery arrived. She was behind a bush on a left hander smack bang in the middle of the lane. She's lucky traffic was bad otherwise she'd of had something jump into her boot at 60mph (hense why I blocked the road just before the bend)

Naturally, even tho I'm very clearly stopping traffic, hazards on, facing the oncoming traffic at a 45degree angle and standing next to it in a yellow hi-viz rain coat a muppet in a BMW thought it be a good idea to plow down the middle of 2 lanes of traffic and go past me. For the sake of the 5mins I closed the road you'd of thought he could of waited. Mucking fuppet. Wonder if he would of done it if I had blue flashing lights in the grill

Looked at it and.....

Adjusted the handbrake

Then

Found a worn Propshaft U/J
Found both front wheel bearings need adjusting
Found the bush's in both front upper suspension arms worn and will need replacement.
Found a split CV boot
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Drivers side:

Main wheel bearings.
Upright needle bearing.
Thrust washer.
Upper ball joint.
lower ball joint.
Outer tie rod joint.
Outer CV joint.
Swapped auto hub for Aisin manual hub.

That should cover things for a while.

Once the new ball joints arrive the passenger side will be done.

Replaced the clutch slave cylinder when I got home...

But first, kicked off at silly time this morning to get to the old HMS Dryad site for 08:00. Normally a nice gentle 2 hour drive, 20 mins into the trip and needing fuel I pulled into the garage and tried the clutch... Apart from the pedal hitting the floor in a smart and soldierly manner 'fek all else happend' truck kept going until I stood on the brakes, forcibly dragged it out of gear and turn the engine off at the same time to prevent it ramming the car sat at the pump in front  Oh brill, dead clutch thingy, great start to the day...

Needed fuel anyway so filled it up.... Then pulled the clutch pedal back up from the floor to see what was going on (no fluid under the truck at this stage) and checked the reservoir which still had fluid in. Amazingly the clutch worked! A quick purchase of some brake fluid to keep it topped up and off we went on the principle so long as it lasted until I got on the M/Way it would get me there and if it didn't then the RAC would!

Made it okay, got the permits sorted and work started leaving me with a day of trotting between Dryad, Blockhouse and the Navel Med sites prepping next weeks stuff. Also rang my local factors Motor Parts Direct and ordered a new clutch slave cylinder (delivered to the door so it was ready for me to fit when I got home. Totally recommend them for service).

Managed the day's drive about okay with the odd 'fluid top up' and then the 90 mile drive home. The clutch literally died just as I pulled up at the house and parked up, bonus!

So... New clutch slave cylinder fitted... To do, new clutch master cylinder on the pretext it's done the same amount, if not more work as the slave cylinder over the years and I'm getting in before it dies in the middle of nowhere!

Just replaced the drive belt and drive belt tensioner, I'm surprised that the drive belt tensioner didn't snap due to the amount of wear, check my photo's.

Fitted 2" lift shackles and wound up the front torsion bars ( slightly too much and now handles like a rabbit in full run lol ) :-)
New fuel pipe as the old one had started spraying the exhaust manifold ( not good :-( )
Now I find a rear wheel cylinder has bitten the bullet and covered the shoes in lovely brake fluid so i now know what im upto for next weekend

Been parked up since out side since Feb, as I had an affair with a 3.1 trooper that I blew the rear diff on last night.

Walked up to my fronty this afternoon apologising humbly and begging for forgiveness, put £15 of fresh fuel in her checked the belts (the alternator belt Is a little fraud but not too bad) put some tape around a split air intake hose checked the oil looked good and clean jumped in said a hail Mary turned the key and bugger me she fired straight up was a little lumpy for about 3 or 4 minuets but settled down and sounded sweet even the tires had only dropped by a couple of psi each.

I god damn love my truck and for the life of me cant think why I bought the trooper!!

Long live the Frontera.

Change the rear tyres to a couple of part worn Grizzly Claws I had knocking about. Quite cuffed with myself, because I did it on one of them DIY stands and a combination of standing on the walls so that the tyre rim sat in the wheel inner recess correctly and tyre levers. Did paste on some of that pink wax stuff to assist the tyre going over the rims. Bit of feffing and jeffing going on but I got there. Then it was a matter of four tank fulls of compressor air before the loud pop with the tyre walls finally pushing up against the rims. You wouldn't want your finger in the way when they do pop. Put it this way, it will stop you picking your nose.
In the end it became a real necessity, because the Special Tracks that start off with 25mm high blocks were down to about 2mm. Must have even been in the realms of bald tyres had I got pulled over :shh:

Out of interest Greg, if you don't mind me asking, what's the rate for old one off and new one on per wheel please. Thinking when I eventually get around to having the new tyres going on.
