the wife and i were talking this morning about our frounti.
the 2.2 petrol that we thinking of putting a 2.8 disel in,
one major question would it be classed as a modified vehicle?
if I went to play in the mud there would be more room on the road

Is that right ?

I thought a like-for-like engine swap was ok, but to increace the engine capacity...

Maybe that's not "modified" but the DVLA will need to know (and the badges changed on the back)

sorry to butt in and also contradict BUT ......
ANY change from MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATION is classed as a modified vehicle, so if its a 2.4 and you change the engine to 2.8 then its modified - alloys instead of steeld - modified, as siad elsewhere - like for like is OK as long as numbers are changed on log book.. this is how the insurence companies get out of paying for thousands of claims..
even something as stupid as fitting an extra mirror to passenger door if there wasnt 1 fitted is a modification - changing seats etc is also included....
Always pays to tell ins. companies about ANY changes from standard - saves grief in the event of an accident

The vehicle IS classed as modified according to Insurers...

Norwich Union (idiots) refused to insure it once the 2.8 conversion was done in mine...

I had NO problems with notifying DVLA of the changes they just changed my V5 to have the new engine number, show it as 2800 and Heavy Oil.

You will have to shop for your insurance.
