I've had an idea!!Occasionally (very occasionally) I get these little brainwaves from the sawdust in my skull...
Today's one concerns my now naked rear end Was wondering what to do about the rear wiper sweeping over the join between glass and tailgate now the spare holder's in the boot, plus I've been casting round for places to stick a CB antenna for a while too. I had thought "lets use one of the holes for the spare holder to stick the antenna into, then realised this would stop any use of the rear wiper. Reckon I've got a plan though - take an angle grinder to the spare holder, and cut it a couple of inches from where it meets the door, then re-attatch it. Result - wiper will have the little bumper thing to protect the blade as it comes off the glass, plus I have a nice solid place to drill a 3/8 stud mount into Jim...

Sounds like a plan - just make sure that there is good metal to metal contact there to ensure the groundplane is intact.
I have been using a truck mirror mount on the metal "protection" loop above the spare holder for my antenna since I got the car, and it's working just peachy. Jay

I was thinking that so as to get my wiper seated in the correct position again. I never though if the cb areal mount though Ste

It's one of the few things that mine didn't fail on ...
All things considered, you don't actually need vision out of the rear window - consider vans and the like. All you technically need is the drivers wing mirror and that's it. That and the spare normally sits in the vision line anyway ... Jay

Ooo00oo... does this mean the idea meets with approval then??
Jay, I think rangaKoo does exactly the same as you for his antenna, also with good results. As for groundplane, I'll remember that - bit of sandpaper to get rid if any paint for the connection, should be sorted, I reckon. Think a celebratory drink is in order for having such a stonking idea. Now just got to find somebody who'll do the grinding *looks in Carl's direction* Jim...

I always thought you needed 2?? Driver's wing mirror, and either the rear-view, or the passenger wing mirror?? I do know the battlewagon passed the last MOT with the rearview mirror in a box in the boot somewhere. And as Jay says, with the spare stuck on the back, you can't see a lot anyhow. Visibiliy is greatly improved by removing it, and sticking it in the boot, or on the roof Jim...

There is no requirement to be able to see out of the back window for the MOT, it is purely for vision for the wing mirrors that is covered. I have had a car pass the MOT with no rear view mirror at all.

Some day it will be how I want it to be...
I've been using CB's for a very long time now, and nearly always had them on a boot mount in the middle of the boot in the past - never once been questioned about it in MOT

And besides, I can't get used to using the rearview mirror anymore these days. Too used to driving artics and the like, where all you get is the wing mirrors.
Might see about getting one of them little jobs that mount right on the front corner of things like Troopers and the like as a blindspot mirror... Jim...

That's probably for the best... Else there's a very real chance that the BWB would be the world's first Fronty with twin targa roof by now, hehe Jim...
