Your views please ( spare wheel box )

Postby -wayne- on Mon Feb 04, 2008 12:06 pm

Hi all when i got my frontera it had a spare wheel box on the back that look abit plain so as i do sign writing i done a nice design for the back of it ( i was very pleased with it ) but by the look of it i was not the only one who was thinking it looked good as 2 days ago i came out of tesco and someone little git has took it lol ( i would of done one for them if they asked lol )

anyhow im in to minds if to get another box for the back or if to take the wheel off the back and stick it in the boot ive seen a few peoples fronteras on here that have moved the wheel from the back and i do like the look of that and was thinking why they done this same reason or to make a change of look ?
i would just leave it with no box on the back but if some little git wants to take my wheel aswell then the tyre and wheel willl cost me more then just a bit of sign writing in the future.

it did not happen where i live i was out of the area as it has been ok in my area for months and loads of other 4x4s still have there boxs on lol but i am a bit worried about living the car and box ( if i get a new one ) on the back if i go out the area

how common is this to happen to peoples spare wheels and box ? i was talking to someone who said this is common but will ask if you have had anything like this happen

Also it was locked up very well but it was nice of them to leave the broken padlock on the floor

Sorry to hear of your cover being pinch, thieving gits, sadly this is all to common.

I have removed my spare from the rear as it is attached to the door and the heavy wheel was ruining the already damaged hinge.

But I always have preferred them with out the wheel.

I did have a notion the wheels acted like mini parachutes on the rear, but its unproven

cheers mate for posting back i do like the look of it with no wheel on the back and if it means saving cash each time might aswel do the same they have big boots anyway so a wheel will not take up to much room with a few shopping bags in the back lol

Put mine on the roof too :D

Gives it a safari look

Apparently there is a way of fitting it in the boot standing up Range Rover style but know one I know has done it :?

Mine now lives in the boot, too. I've got a couple of elastics holding it upright, and a few odds n sods tucked behind it on top of the wheel arch - stops em from sliding around the boot.

Still plenty of space - I've had 5 tyres / wheels in there before when I was going to the tyre fitters for my Colways, and no problems. Will be working ona better way soon though.

I'd be careful of putting much on the roof that weighs a lot - even wheels & tyres - especially when off-roading. You want to keep the centre of gravity LOW. Putting wheels on the roof on a lifted car could potentially see you in a sorry state on a side bank.

Make sure you stick it in the boot when in the brown stuff!

Mine is in the boot, tied down to the shackles with a ratchet strap. My hinges are a bit stiff and the door is easier to open now.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!

Just took the spare off my SWB, contemplating a good place to hide it or even run without (tyre weld).

Might decide to run with it on the roof, not decided.
