Where is the EDC?/Relay control voltages?

Postby JBW on Sun Feb 03, 2008 12:49 pm

HI, related to my fan heater problem. The relay in the bonnet fuse box (K7) appears to have it's coil supplied by the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control Unit) its a blue 12V relay and works fine in the main beam socket.

However, when measuring the volts applied to the coil connections witht he ignition on I get 12V on one and about 5.5V on the other.

I would like to find the EDC to see if it is putting out 5.5v or whetehr me wiring fault on my fan blower is related to a bigger damaged loom issue, ie. -ve is picking up from another 12v powered circuit through damaged insulation....

First call is to find the EDC. Mines a 2.5TD.

Any help much appreciated. I'm bl**dy freexing...

Thanks Steve. Like your comment re Haynes manual. It's been many years since I last used one on cars. I love the way that they stated 'now remove the ***** (substitute with whatever part your trying to work on). They still do and it's so frustrating.

If anyone out there knows where the EDC on my 2.5 TD is located it'd really help out.

Found EDC in passenger footwell, undo two plastic fixing where the soles of your feet would go and remove carpet. Theres a metal cover with 4 x head screws protecting it. & 4 10mm bolts hold the bracket in place.

I'm not sure if all ECUs are in the same place - I suspect not. So treat this as 2.5 TD specific.

Disconnected & was able to isolate fault to supply to ACon system & isolate this off.

Yippee, fan blow working now - come on frost give me your worst now.

Boy am I glad it's fixed - you don't realise how much you use the fan in the winter.
