Pipe deterioration

Postby rattusrattus13 on Sat Feb 02, 2008 10:19 am

hi folks just bought a 1995 2.2 petrol lwb frounti haven't had chance to drive her very for as got a real bad petrol smell to the extent of having it towed home, the main fuel line from the fuel tank was widdling fuel out just thought you may need to be aware of this if not already known about as i missed this when looking over the car as all pipes looked good it did 30 miles before the fuel gauge was moving way too fast , thank fully my kids went in it ,
if I went to play in the mud there would be more room on the road

pipes to deteriorate we have had this on both petrol and diesel models

for a car 13 years old its quite normal rubber has shelf life of 5 years and should be replaced if any deteration is visable

the 2.2dti and B series also have pipes deterioting and they are a lot younger

rubber pipes need checking as part of service especially on chassis

weather sunlight and tempeture all have an effect on the performance of rubber

Its a pretty simple replacement exercise apart from the the rubber pipes to the fuel pump. The tank will have to be dropped to do this. Not difficult and there are many posts discussing the subject on here :)
