At work this morning i went along with my boss to see a L200 pick up that he is thinking of getting at a local garage .
Well when i was there they have a M REG 2.8td LWB 98000 miles on he, half vx service history the other half them selfs with 2 owners from new & they want £1195 It's MOT till end of may '08 & taxed Till end march . And had a full service in December '07
So i thought i best give it a try as it looked so nice & thought if its any good i may do a swap for my 2.4i LWB if he did not want too much cash
I was out in it for about 15 minutes & did a few miles on main road as well as down a B road
It drove very well BUT it was alot more sluggish than my 2.4i Is this normal as it was It was like it was being restricted in some way even when the turbo come in it did not seem to pull as much as i thought i would
Also looking at the engine after drive there was a oil leak from the rocker cover
So what i would like to know are the 2.8's like that compared to the 2.4's or would you say it's just a bad one
And would my truck & £500 be a fair swap or should i walk away and find another one
I Like this Truck of mine, just like me it's well run in it's not old just older.

The air filter did not look too bad so don't think it was that,
As for brakes binding it maybe as i did not have to press much on brake pedal and it stopped dead - where with my truck i have to put a fair bit of force on the pedal to do the same .
What sort of cost would it be to sort brakes if its that ? (they would need to come down on price a bit if i had to do it )

Im doing mine in the morning
Ive just got a front set of disks and pads (there worn anyway) hoping that helps one issue. £56
But Im going to check all the calipers and refurbish any that are sticking,
I think brakes international charge around £13 for a refurb kit.
Failing that calipers from a scrapper.
Ready refurbed calipers can cost in the region of £65 each.

I went back and had another look at the 2.8 today,
I got them to jack it up and had a good look around it all -
Both rear brakes seem to be binding and both front wheel bearings are a Little wobble
The rear diff cover was OK But the oil in there looked like it had go water in it as it was a creamy white colour .
Also took her for another drive down the road to a mud track that is owned by the next door farmer that we do work for, & tryed it in 4WD and it makes alot of noise when in 4H not so much in 4L - Any ideas as what this would be ?
Anyway the garage would not do any other sort of deal still what £500 & my truck .
So i will leave this one & see if i find a better one

Diff could have a little water in through the breather or very very old oil.
Brakes binding could be handbrake sticking or calipers, could even possibly be a rear diff problem.
Keep looking, I would, a goodn will turn up
