Looks like one of the sensors causing the ECU to make the mixture a little too rich. Had a similar problem on my 2.5 vectra and just trying to dig out the recipt from the MOT for the fix, was a sensor with a dodgy reading which was not quite out of natural range but really can't remember which one....

Needs new custom drive chain, modded body to take wider tyres, wider wheels and tyres and will then be complete other than the lift, mud tyres, rock sliders, and everything else I can think of....

Found it, had failure almost the same as yours but also failed on HC in the first test, had Crank sensor replaced at the time and then got it through, though looking at the recipts I also had the camm sensor replaced about 3 months later due to fault light coming on....

I took my 1994 Renault Clio 1.2 in for an MOT yesterday - it failed on emmissions.

This morning, I added some petrol treatment and razzed it down the M5 to work. Handed it over to my mechanic and awaited the news - it failed on emissions.

He changed the spark plugs and it passed next try.

Try changing some of the cheaper stuff first before commiting to the expencive stuff.

Can you get hold of cataclean? It really is the dogs b's. Put one bottle into the tank and go for a good thrash, that should drop it enough to pass. You may have an injector a bit gummed and giving the wrong spray pattern so you are gettin an incomplete burn. If not if you speak to Ste nice he's coming over this side saturday to pick up his brakes he may bring one back for you.

its all sorted,

stupid me, and yes i will be the first to admit it,
three things that never even crossed my mind,
1. no,2 spark plug weak spark, (new set tomorrow)
2. air filter, (had a cone filter fited but the inside was black)
3. petrol tank was full of crap, (white sludge, i remember a while back i had a water leak in the boot, loads of water in there, so i pulled the bung and let the water out, not relising the water driped straight on to the tank, and some how found its way in, well there is a dodge seal around the pump,(there was)
cheers guys

Did you you put an after market cat and sensor on cause i've put these on for people and to put it bluntly they are s**t i know its a lot for gen parts but looking at that the cat aint doing anything the other one could be air flow sensor giving wrong reading causing it to over compensate with fuel instead of air take it the engine light aint on
It might be slow but i can go anywhere!
