the curse of the 2.2 dtl maf sensor

Postby pinky on Wed Jan 02, 2008 5:35 pm

Hi guys, happy new year to you all.

Looks like I have secummed to the curse of the faulty maf sensor. If I accelerate above 3K eml comes on and I loose turbo. If I pull over turn off the engine, wait a few seconds and restart all is fine. ( tried resatrling while in motion but that doesnt work ). Getting the diagnosic code for maf sensor fault and barametric pressure fault. As its a 1999 2.2dtl I just bought another maf sensor, not a bosch unit but a patern unit for about £80. Problem is when I changed it I then started suffering bad hesitation. If I held the speed and then tried to accelerate it would do nothing for maybe half a second then kick in suddenly, not ideal in traffic. I have put the old one back and no hesitation, but still gets the eml on when accelerating.

Question is do I have to reset the ecu or have I bought a duff sensor?

I have found that with the origianal maf if I see the eml come on, if I back off the power imediately the light will stay on but doesn't go into limp home mode, I think there is about a 1 second delay. Thought that might be usefull to know.

Otherwise has been a good truck, gives a good 31-34 mpg even up hear in hilly Sheffield.

Many thanks for your help.

I was given the wrong MAF for my 2.2 petrol. A bosch unit but only the last digit was different in the part no. It gave me the same problems that you are describing after you fitted the new unit. But I dont have much experience with diesels. Just my 2 pence.
