owning a 2.2dti would not like to incriminate myself but can say that the highest speed achieved so far was in the 2.8

A legend in my own mind
Hmmm... If I subscribe to the runway theory then it was just touching 105mph. 1995 2.2 petrol LWB. But the engine sorta screams at that speed and it doesnt feel particularly comfortable either and it was a reasonably long runway so it was a bit scary watching the fuel gauge go down so fast. Very happy at 75 though. Reasonable economy and comfort. But Im really just happy cruising at the speed limit these days. I do find the engine has a fair amount of torque under 3000 RPM. and its happy in town in 5th gear at about 35+ MPH. With patience, gauging traffic lights, accelerating smoothly etc in a city I can get around with just 4th and 5th gear for the most part.
sir-doris,
what engine do you have? Want to hazard a guess as to WHAT this car was??? By the way, if you've ever been on the site of a fatal road traffic incident then you will be changed for life and not want to speed! Three things to always remember. Don't forget your seatbelt. Don't drink and drive. Don't speed... And here endeth the lesson. And nope, I don't care to lecture people.. www.4x4search.org - your 4x4 search engine. 100% human submitted and edited!
Ford Escort MKIII if my eye tells me correct.
And yes, I agree with the sentiment about not speeding. I used to investigate accidents for a living and will only ever speed under controled circumstances (as I said in my post, was on private land and was only in a straight line thus not endangering anyone else). However having said that I will regularly sit at 75-80 on a motorway if the conditions are right..... '99 3.2V6 Auto Limited.
Some day it will be how I want it to be...
RangaKoo: 2.2 petrol. 1995 LWB

At just over 4000rpm it touches the 100mph mark.... Patience is a Virtue engineered by a Frontera...
Seeing those photos reminded me of a crash I saw about 15 years ago. A citroen 2cv dolly had crashed into a metal fence.
The car had literally gone through the railings, in nice neat two inch strips. The fence was pretty much undamaged. Just shows what speed, a wet road and a pile of $hite car can do. Wish I had pictures, cause I still don't believe what I saw. SPEED DOESNT KILL - Bad driving does But as mentioned above, DONT speed, DONT drink drive and DONT forget your seatbelt Big Dave

Cars travailing at speed tend to disintegrate when coming into contact with other objects, trees tend to be the worst, they don’t move, I know of a few trees that have taken lives over the years, they are still standing proud just a few scuffs in the bark.

As I live on a private estate with few roads mostly stick to low speeds, 10 - 20 on site , but just after bought her took off up the hill where I live at nightime to see what she could do. Tarmac road rising up from sea level to over 1000 feet at 1 in 5 slope on the straight point reached 90 mph. Scared stiff so now no more above 70 or what the road speed is. Andi
