viscous fan question

Postby sare^baw's on Mon Dec 17, 2007 10:47 pm

was out changing my coolant tonight (2.8 engine) and i noticed the viscous fan was spinning while the engine was cold, am i right in thinking it should not be spinning when the engine is cold.

is there any drawbacks to this and should i fix it ?

The fan has a special springy thing in it which expands as the engine gets hotter and as a result allows the fan to rotate at maximum speed. When cold,it only turns a fraction of its cooling capacity, allowing the engine to reach optimum working temperature asap.
