Been thinking.....

OK so the sport has a cavalier based engine - right?
Sooooooooo If I can get hold of a cavalier with the Vauxhall 1.7 td engine - would it fit onto the sports Gearbox, and would engine mounts etc be the same?

Just that I have seen a few cheap sports - but cant live with the Mpg of the 2.0 petrol, so got thinking along those lines - the 1700 td is a fairly pokey engine so Mpg should be improved (compared to the petrol) all in the planning stages at the mo - but thought id put the idea out there and get some answers - hopefully

brava 2.5 fits the frontera 2.0 only need to swap belllhousing the cav is fwd as opposed to the frontera being rwd therefore the bellhousing off a cav will not fit as its a transverse box
A legend in my own mind

If you are going to swap over to a diesel then get a 2.8 engine and put in it... you need a new gearbox but at least your getting something which can pull the heavy body.

The 2.0 has bad economy because of the weight of the body/chassis in the Fronty.

The 1.7 is going to be worse at a guess, despite being a diesel it will be struggling eternally to pull the weight.

Grab a 2.8 or a 2.5 and put it in and don't worry about it. Or convert to gas.

V8 WOULD be lovely.. but it'd have to be a fairly small V8 block to get in there smoothly without loads of cutting ;)

I dont think the 2l sport is that bad on economy...my boss has an 03 2l focus estate.

and we have done our sums. and there is very little diff on miles to the gallon. but i would say he drives abit higher speed than i do, but all in al its not to bad.

It was ahead of its time, and under engineered which made it suitable for performance tuning

Yeah but its the Torque that is of interest to 4x4'rs not the Bhp...mind you I do know to a 110 fitted with a 4.6 with QUAD carbs - nice noise - like brown stuff off a shovel - and drinks like a dehydrated fish ;)
also know to a LSE range rover (the stretched one) with a 5.0 TVR lump fitted
