laptop brightness issueAcer Aspire 6920g i recently had to a factory reinstall on my laptop its all back upto date with all the latest drivers but every time i shut the laptop down it forgets the brightness setting it also forgets when the screen saver comes on or it goes into power saving mode
i can turn the brightness back up in the control panel and while im using it its fine anyone got any ideas
Re: laptop brightness issueWhat OS you using?
If it ain't broke, fix it before it does!! You know it will!!
Re: laptop brightness issueTry reinstalling the graphics drivers again from here http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/no ... 6920G.html
There is some warning about having to have SP1 installed too. Will let you read it all. I take it you have tried pressing the FN and left/right cursor keys Traffic lights in London are just rough guidelines
Re: laptop brightness issuei have all ready installed that driver and yes i can turn the brightness back up with the fn key but it just goes back to dark next time i boot it up or the screen saver comes on
Re: laptop brightness issueIs there somewhere to save your display profile ? It sounds like your adjusting your settings but saving them. If you look at your power settings (for battery and mains power) you should be able to adjust and save them permanently.
Haven't got a Vista machine on at the moment, bull will boot one up if you get stuck.
Re: laptop brightness issueOn vista there is a power options section
double click on the battery icon bottom right it should bring up the power meter window select the customise option where it says on ac power leave/put everything up full on battery power move the brightness up and then put everything to the settings you want eg where it uses all the power once done click save then see how that goes. helps working with craptops all day If it ain't broke, fix it before it does!! You know it will!!
Re: laptop brightness issuei have got the power plan set to high performance and have set the brightness in the additional setting for the power plan i always click apply but they never save
i have set the brightness in windows mobility centre and that doesn't save the setting either ive only had this problem since doing a factory reset i was thinking it was a graphics driver problem so i have tried the drivers from acer and also the latest driver from nvidia as the graphic card is a nvidia geforce 9500 gs turbocache but still have the problem
Re: laptop brightness issueis this running on battery power or plugged in?
If it ain't broke, fix it before it does!! You know it will!!
Re: laptop brightness issuewhen plugged in it should go to maximum settings on everything.
have you got the recovery disks? if so they are a god send cause you did full reset try a fresh install just make sure you got a drivers disk. thats the way i would go. hmmm confusing If it ain't broke, fix it before it does!! You know it will!!
Re: laptop brightness issuethey dont come with recovery disks as such it on an hidden partition on the hard drive (alt f10) on boot up if i cant get to the bottom of it ill give it another go cheers for the help
Re: laptop brightness issueJust hope it actually helps

Re: laptop brightness issuedoes you laptop have acerarcade installed? its a program that auto adjusts the video settings for movies that are dark ect, never works right just like alot of programs under vista,if so open acerarcade and goto movie or cinema/ settings/display settings in there you change the colour profile from ClearVision to Original.
Re: laptop brightness issuewell laptops do this when there running on battery to save power, but as your running of the psu it shouldnt do it,goto power setting in control panel and see if your can adjust it in there, disable any power saving modes and set it to max performance, if it still doesnt work then goto acer's website and install every updated drivers and software for your laptop, also make sure you have windows fully updated too,if its still wont work then there is a possibility that the backlight is on its way out.you could also try installing say xp,if that works ok then you know its a vista problem and not a hardware problem.before trying that though make sure you have made a recovery disc as your recovery is on a partition.
Re: laptop brightness issue
No drivers available for XP on that lappy mate. Also, I think that's a little extreme just to see if its a Vista or hardware issue. I did find this http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=163745 which relates to the GPU in your laptop. It may be worth posting a Q on the nVidia forums Rich. You may be able to roll the driver back to an older version to cure the issue.
Re: laptop brightness issueoops didnt realize that,ye it is extreme but if all else fails then its an option, but not for this lappy,i do think its a driver problem though rather than hardware, vista is the new windows me ie major fail hence windows 7
another thing you can try is disabling the uac, when vista first came out lots of people had problems with games and programs not saving profiles, you would set a game up with all your keys and video settings but it wouldnt save, next time you boot up it was all set to default again, disabeling uac cured this, its been a long time since i ran vista but if i remember right click start button and type msconfig, then click the msconfig link, click tools and scroll down to disable uac(may say uap),disable it then save and reboot pc,then istall your chipset and vga drivers again and see it if that cures it,if it doesnt you can allways turn uac back on if you wish, they say its a security risk to have it turned off but ive never used it as it causes to many problems,i dont even have it turned on in windows 7. also when installing the drivers if it has its own setup.exe dont just double click it,right click it then run as administrator.
Re: laptop brightness issueits deffo a strange one this morning i booted the laptop up and all was fine
until i shut it down and restarted it now i have to reset the brightness again thanks for finding that out about the driver issue ill be looking into that later
Re: laptop brightness issueive fixed it (fingers crossed)
i had got a corrupted executable file in Acer Arcade Deluxe i uninstalled the arcade and reinstalled it and hey presto all fixed well arcade deluxe is still hit and miss if it works but its always been that way
