Both ... it depends on the route it takes and the lag it encounters. Here's mine And just for fun

Yeah, but see how the ping has increased. Also, it's after 6pm, when a lot of internet users get online after getting home from work .. plus most ISP's are capping speeds after 6pm to "protect their users" (translation: they don't want to invest in better infrastructure )

Virgin have a lot of over subscribed UBR's (the network areas) and that affects speeds, but they are migrating the 10meg and 20meg users will be ported over to the DOCSIS 3 network but will be running DOCSIS 2. I think they will need a new ambit 256 modem to get the benefit. Go to www.virginmedia.com/swapmodem and you can order an Ambit The DOCSIS3 is primarily for 50meg users but they will use the DOCSIS 3 network as opposed to DOCSIS 2. This theoretically should open up more bandwidth and increase end user speeds.

If I go through our network I get 10mb down and 2mb up, if I go direct through the modem I am getting 49mb down and 15mb up, but that is using the VM secret speed test site that they use for the engineers to test the speed of installations. If I use speed test I get the same through the network and only 42mb down direct. Speedtest.netwill loose you aout 5-10% due to loads at times.
