Fitting
an Ecotek and K&N filter
- Submitted by Ben
I have recently fitted an Ecotek CB-26p and a K&N Induction kit to my Frontera 2.0i sport (K) 92, I though
I would write to you and describe how I did it and the problems
I came across and also the results I found as this may help others in the future.
When I bought my Frontera 2 months ago it was bog standard. I found it a bit slow on acceleration so hearing about the
Ecotek CB-26p and K&N induction kits I decided to try them. I purchased both items from a company that advertise in max power magazine. They arrived a few days later and
I began fitting them the next day! First I fitted the Ecotek CB-26p and
I could not believe how easy it was! The fitting instructions included very
useful pictures which helped me to locate the pipe I would have to connect the Ecotek to. That was the hardest part! Then
I just simply cut through the pipe and pushed the Ecotek straight on. The pipe was the perfect size which was a bonus! Then
I adjusted the Ecotek as told in the instructions, it took about 2 mins and was very easy to understand and do. That was all there was to it!
Next was the K&N induction kit, this also was a lot easier than
I thought it would be! Simply disconnect the original air filter from the inlet pipe and the chassis and then unbolt the filter from the electronics box which is connected to it. I had to drill a small hole in the wheel arch to fix a bracket on which would hold the new filter and then simply push the new filter onto the electronics box and secure with a
jubilee clip which was provided. connect the electronics box back to the inlet pipe and bolt the filter to the bracket and
that's nearly it! The only other thing to do was cable tie a pipe so it directs some air from the front grill to the filter element. EASY!
I have found good results from fitting both of these! I noticed a
definite improvement in acceleration. I don't know the MPG results but
I do know that on a full tank (about £50 worth of unleaded)
I got 350 miles before fitting. After fitting I found to the same amount of fuel
I was getting 400 miles! that's 50 miles more per tank full which adds up to
a lot throughout the whole year!
I hope this helps other people out who are thinking of doing the same!
Costs:
The Ecotek CB-26p £48.99
The Induction kit £77.95
